PAC-06-A-107-A 04 JUL 06 (ASSIST) SEWARD CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from USCG D17 (Juneau RCC), to search for an EPIRB in the Seward (SWD) area. SWD CAP was tasked and responded with a ground team which located the non-distress EPIRB in a large semi-truck garbage container at the SWD landfill. USCG D17 elected to wait for the EPIRB batteries to expire and stated no further assistance was needed. The SWD CAP ground team searched for 1.7 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-06-A-109-S 06 JUL 06 (SAR) FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near fairbanks (FAI). FAI CAP was tasked and responded with an aircraft however the ELT ceased prior to the CAP aircraft’s arrival in the search area. FAI CAP flew one sortie for 1.2 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-06-A-111-A 08 JUL 06 (ASSIST) JUNEAU CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from USCG D17 (Juneau RCC) to search for the source of a mayday broadcast in the Frederick Sound area. Juneau (JNU) CAP was tasked and responded with two search aircraft, however no signs of distress were found. No further leads were received and Juneau RCC suspended the search requiring no further assistance. JNU CAP flew two sorties for 4.7 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-06-A-112-S 08 JUL 06 (SAR) AK STATE TROOPERS, ANCHORAGE CAP, BIRCHWOOD CAP, EIELSON CAP & FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to a report of an overdue (o/d) aircraft flying from Manley Hot Springs to Five Mile Airstrip along the Haul Road. The o/d aircraft’s owner and father of the o/d pilot reported his son o/d when he failed to arrive at his destination. Fairbanks (FAI), Eielson (EIL), Birchwood (BCV) and Anchorage (ANC) CAP along with the Alaska State Troopers (AST) were all tasked and responded with search aircraft. The o/d aircraft’s crash site was located on the fourth day of the search; the pilot was deceased. The pilot’s remains were recovered by AST. FAI CAP flew 24 sorties for 76.5 hours. EIL CAP flew six sorties for 22.8 hours. BCV CAP flew three sorties for 10.4 hours. ANC CAP flew ten sorties for 24.5 hours. AST flew four sorties for 21.9 hours. One deceased.

PAC-06-A-113-A 08 JUL 06 (ASSIST) JUNEAU CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from the USCG Maritime Safety Office (MSO) in Juneau (JNU) to survey pollution damage from two fishing vessels that ran aground in the Lynn Canal, north of JNU. JNU CAP was tasked and responded with an aircraft, which located the vessels and took extensive photographs of them. JNU CAP forwarded the photos to the MSO JNU for further evaluation. JNU CAP flew one sortie for 1.1 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-06-A-114-S 09 JUL 06 (SAR) EIELSON CAP & FCC
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in Big Delta. Eielson CAP was tasked and responded with a ground search team which was unable to locate the source of the signal. The FCC was then tasked and continued the search by providing a ground search team, which located some damaged electrical equipment which they believed to be the source of the ELT signal, however the signal ceased prior to it`s source being confirmed. The Eielson CAP ground team searched for 2.5 hours and claimed $60.00 for expenses. The FC ground team searched for 17.5 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-06-A-116-S 11 JUL 06 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to faa reports of an ELT in Anchorage (ANC). ANC CAP was tasked and responded with a ground search team, which located the non-distress ELT in a parked aircraft at Lake Hood and secured it. The ANC CAP ground team searched for 0.3 hours, and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-06-A-117-A 11 JUL 06 (ASSIST) KODIAK CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from USCG D17 (Juneau RCC) to search for an ELT in Kodiak. Kodiak CAP was tasked and responded with a ground search team which was unable to locate the source of the ELT, which subsequently ceased transmissions. Juneau RCC no longer required assistance and the mission was closed. The Kodiak CAP ground team searched 0.6 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-06-A-118-S 13 JUL 06 (SAR) EIELSON CAP & FCC
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Delta Junction area. Eielson (EIL) CAP was tasked and responded with a ground search team that was unable to locate the source of the ELT. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) office in Anchorage was then tasked and responded with a ground search team that also was unable to determine the source of the signal. 11 RCC coordinated with FAA radio maintenance personnel and determined that an FAA transmitter at Delta Junction was the source of the non-distress ELT signal. The malfunctioning equipment was soon repaired and the signal ceased. The EIL CAP ground team searched for 1.0 hours and claimed $66.00 for expenses. The FCC ground search team searched for 14.6 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-06-A-119-A 14 JUL 06 (ASSIST) HOMER CAP
Mission opened in response to a USCG D17 request for assistance to locate an overdue boat traveling from Homer to Bear Cove and then back to Homer. Homer CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located the non-distress boat just outside Homer Harbor. Homer CAP flew one sortie for 1.3 hours. Three located.

PAC-06-A-120-S 14 JUL 06 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT and aircraft reports of an ELT in the Anchorage (ANC) area. ANC CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft and later a ground search team, which located the non-distress ELT in a parked aircraft at Lake Hood Airstrip and secured it. ANC CAP flew one sortie for 0.5 hours and their ground team searched for 0.8 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-06-A-121-S 14 JUL 06 (SAR) BETHEL CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT and FAA reports of an ELT in the St. Mary`s area. Bethel (BET) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft which located and silenced the non-distress ELT in a parked airplane at the St. Mary`s airport. BET CAP flew two sorties for 2.2 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-06-A-122-S 16 JUL 06 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT and aircraft reports of an ELT in the Big Lake area. Birchwood (BCV) CAP was tasked and responded with a ground team which located the non-distress ELT, in a parked aircraft undergoing maintenance at the Big Lake Airport, and secured it. The BCV CAP ground team searched for 2.5 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-06-A-123-S 16 JUL 06 (SAR) KENAI CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Soldotna area. Kenai CAP (ENA CAP) was tasked and responded with a ground search team and search aircraft which located and silenced the non-distress ELT in a parked airplane at Kenai airport. ENA CAP flew one sortie for 0.6 hours and their ground team searched for 4.5 hours claiming $45.00 for expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-06-A-124-S 19 JUL 06 (SAR) EIELSON CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Eielson AFB. Eielson CAP was tasked and responded with a ground search team, which located the non-distress ELT in a parked aircraft and secured it. The Eielson CAP ground team searched for 3.0 hours, and claimed $25.00 for expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-06-A-125-S 19 JUL 06 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Wasilla area. Birchwood CAP was tasked and responded with a ground search team which located the non-distress ELT in a residence, and secured it. The Birchwood CAP ground team searched for 2.7 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-06-A-126-S 19 JUL 06 (SAR) FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Fairbanks (FAI) area. FAI CAP was tasked and conducted a ground search in the Fox area. No signal was detected so a FAI CAP search aircraft was launched. Again, no signal was detected until the search aircraft was taxiing back to parking at FAI Int’l Airport. Another FAI CAP ground team was tasked which located the non-distress ELT in a hangared C-185 and secured it. FAI CAP flew one sortie for 1.0 hours and their ground teams searched for 3.0 hours claiming no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-06-A-127-S 21 JUL 06 (SAR) BETHEL CAP
Mission opened in response to an FAA report of a downed aircraft (acft) near Aniak, passed from an airborne acft. Bethel (BET) CAP was tasked and responded with a search acft, which was unable to locate the downed acft and found no signs of distress. The pilot who called in the report was contacted and he gave different coordinates from those originally passed by FAA. The actual coordinates led to an old B-29 wreck near Talkeetna. BET CAP flew two sorties for 2.5 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-06-A-128-S 21 JUL 06 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP & BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Wasilla. Birchwood (BCV) CAP was tasked and responded with a ground search team which was unable to locate the ELT. The next day, BCV CAP sent out a ground team and Elmendorf (EDF) CAP sent out a search aircraft both of which were unable to locate the ELT, which subsequently ceased transmissions. The BCV CAP ground teams searched for 11.7 hours with no expenses claimed. EDF CAP flew one sortie for 1.2 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-06-A-129-S 21 JUL 06 (SAR) FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT plotting out in the Fairbanks (FAI) area. FAI CAP was tasked and responded with a ground team which located the non-distress ELT in a hangared aircraft undergoing maintenance, and secured it. The FAI CAP ground team searched for 0.3 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-06-A-130-S 22 JUL 06 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP & GULKANA CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Gulkana (GKN). Birchwood (BCV) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which localized the ELT to a campground with several recreational vehicles (RV’s). GKN CAP was then tasked and responded with a ground search team which located and secured the ELT in an RV at the campground. BCV CAP flew two sorties for 2.9 hours. The GKN CAP ground team searched for 1.7 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-06-A-131-S 24 JUL 06 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Anchorage area. Birchwood CAP (BCV CAP) was tasked and responded with a search aircraft which located and silenced the non-distress ELT in a parked aircraft at the Lake Hood airstrip. BCV CAP flew one sortie for 1.2 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-06-A-134-A 26 JUL 06 (ASSIST) HOMER CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from the AK State Troopers (AST) in Homer (HOM) to search for an overdue (o/d) person. HOM CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, however they were unable to locate the o/d person and AST turned the search over to the HOM police as a missing persons case. Assistance was no longer needed and HOM CAP was released from the search. HOM CAP flew one sortie for 2.2 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-06-A-135-S 28 JUL 06 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Beluga Lake (42nm NW of Anchorage). Anchorage (ANC) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft which located the non-distress ELT in a floatplane on Eight Mile Lake (10nm NW of Beluga Lake). The owner of the floatplane silenced the ELT and informed CAP that the activation was inadvertant and non-distress. ANC CAP flew one sortie for 3.5 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-06-A-137-A 28 JUL 06 (ASSIST) KENAI CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from USCG D17 (Juneau RCC) to search for an overdue (o/d) zodiac boat with three fishermen onboard in the Deep Creek area. Kenai (ENA) CAP was tasked to respond with a search aircraft, however the AK State Troopers located the non-distress o/d fishermen prior to the ENA CAP aircraft getting airborne. ENA CAP flew no sorties or hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-06-A-140-S 31 JUL 06 (SAR) AK STATE TROOPERS & SEWARD CAP
Mission opened in response to an FAA report of a downed aircraft near Point Mackenzie. A SARSAT ELT report was also received. Seward (SWD) CAP was tasked and diverted a search aircraft from mission 2006-0139 to search. The SWD CAP aircrew located the overturned aircraft however they were unable to land. The AK State Troopers (AST) were then tasked and responded with a helicopter which was able to land at the site, however the pilot reported he was non-distress and refused assistance. His aircraft’s ELT was secured and the mission was closed. SWD CAP flew one sortie for 0.8 hours and the AST helicopter flew one sortie for 0.5 hours. One located.
