Mission opened in response to FAA reports of an ELT in the vicinity of Kenai (ENA) airport. ENA CAP was tasked and responded with a ground search team, which yielded negative results. No SARSAT reports were received and the mission was closed pending further developments. The ENA CAP ground team searched for one hour and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-04-A-186-A 02 SEP 04 (ASSIST) JUNEAU CAP
Mission opened in response to a request from US Coast Guard D17 to assist in the search for an overdue aircraft. The aircraft was traveling from Juneau (JNU) to Farragut Bay and back to JNU. The aircraft did not return to JNU as planned. JNU CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located the aircraft at Farragut Bay with a dead battery. The CAP aircrew spoke with the pilot and arranged assistance with the pilots son. JNU CAP flew one sortie for 1.2 hours. One assist awarded.
PAC-04-A-187-S 04 SEP 04 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT 17 nm east of Anchorage (ANC). ANC CAP was tasked and responded with two search aircraft, which yielded negative results. The ELT ceased and three SARSAT missed passes were received. ANC CAP flew two sorties for 3.1 hours. No credits awarded.
PAC-04-A-188-S 05 SEP 04 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Anchorage (ANC). ANC CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which narrowed the search area down to the ANC International Airport. An ANC CAP ground team was then tasked and began to search along with airport personnel. The non-distress ELT was located in a parked aircraft and secured. ANC CAP flew two sorties for 2.3 hours and their ground team searched for 0.7 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-04-A-190-S 07 SEP 04 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT east of Anchorage (ANC). Birchwood (BCV) and ANC CAP were both tasked and responded with search aircraft and ground teams. ANC CAP located and silenced the non-distress ELT in a civilian helicopter being serviced at Big Lake. BCV CAP flew one sortie for 1.6 hours. ANC CAP flew one sortie for 0.9 hours and their ground team searched for 3.5 hours claiming no expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-04-A-191-S 08 SEP 04 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near McCarthy. Anchorage CAP (ANC CAP) was tasked and responded with a search aircraft. National Park Service (NPS) personnel in Gulkana were notified of the ELT search in the Wrangell-St.Elias Park and they placed calls to local air carriers. NPS was notified through McCarthy Air Service that an individual in McCarthy told them he just turned off his non-distress ELT. ANC CAP flew one sortie for 5.2 hours. No credits awarded.
PAC-04-A-192-S 12 SEP 04 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to a report of a downed aircraft near Whittier. Anchorage (ANC) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft. The wreckage was located and was determined to be an old crash site. ANC CAP flew one sorite for 2.5 hours. No credits awarded
PAC-04-A-193-S 13 SEP 04 (SAR) FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to an FAA report of an overdue aircraft traveling from Lake Snohomish (sw of Nenana) to Fairbanks (FAI). FAI CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which was unable to launch due poor weather. A civilian aircraft overflying Lake Snohomish saw the non-distress incident aircraft flying over the lake, while the CAP aircrew were waiting for weather to improve. The pilot of the incident aircraft self-recovered to FAI. FAI CAP flew no sorties or hours. No credits awarded.
PAC-04-A-194-S 14 SEP 04 (SAR) FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Nenana. Fairbanks CAP (FAI CAP) was tasked and responded with a search aircraft. FAI CAP located the non-distress ELT in a home and secured it, after the owner was handling the ELT to check the battery and didn’t realize it was on. FAI CAP flew one sortie for 1.9 hours and their ground team searched for 2.0 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-04-A-195-S 14 SEP 04 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP & NPS
Mission opened in response to an FAA report of an overdue aircraft traveling from Judd Lake to Upper Tazimina Lake. Birchwood CAP (BCV CAP) and the Lake Clark National Park Service (NPS) were both tasked and responded with search aircraft. The BCV CAP aircrew located the overdue aircraft, non-distress moored at a dock at Judd Lake. BCV CAP flew one sortie for 2.1 hours and the NPS flew one sortie for 0.9 hours. One located awarded.
PAC-04-A-196-S 15 SEP 04 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to an FAA report of an overdue aircraft traveling from Birchwood (BCV) to Skwentna back to BCV. BCV CAP was tasked and diverted a search aircraft from another mission (2004-0195), as they were already near the primary search area. The overdue aircraft was located non-distress at the Skwentna Airport. BCV CAP flew one sortie for 1.0 hour. No credits awarded.
PAC-04-A-198-A 16 SEP 04 (ASSIST) ANCHORAGE CAP & 210TH RQS
Mission opened is response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers (AST) to assist in the search for a missing hunter. The hunter was traveling by foot north of Tustumena Lake late on 15 sep and did not return. His hunting partner reported him overdue the next morning. Anchorage (ANC) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft and searched the most likely areas. The 210th RQS was also tasked and responded with an HH-60 to search the areas with heavy foilage. An AST ground team found the survivor at the boat launch as they were preparing to take a boat to the search area. The survivor had gotten lost and hiked the shore all night to the boat launch. ANC CAP flew one sortie for 4.8 hours. The 210th RQS HH-60 flew one sortie for 2.0 hours. One located awarded.
PAC-04-A-199-S 18 SEP 04 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Knik area. Birchwood (BCV) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft and a ground team. They were however, unable to locate the source of the ELT, which subsequently ceased transmissions. BCV CAP flew one sortie for 2.1 hours and their ground team searched for 2.3 hours claiming $10.00 for expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-04-A-200-S 18 SEP 04 (SAR) EIELSON CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Fairbanks. Eielson (EIL) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft. EIL CAP searched the area and investigated three aircraft. They found no indications of the ELT. This coincided with the RCC receiving three SARSAT missed passes. EIL CAP flew one sortie for 1.8 hours. No credits awarded.
PAC-04-A-202-S 20 SEP 04 (SAR) KENAI CAP, 210TH RQS & NPS
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT located near Sparrevohn AFS. Kenai (ENA) CAP, the 210th RQS and the National Park Service (NPS) were tasked to locate the ELT and each responded with search aircraft. The NPS aircraft located and silenced the non-distress ELT in a parked aircraft. Kenai CAP flew one sortie for 0.4 hours. The 210th RQS HC-130 flew one sortie for 0.8 hours, and the NPS flew one sortie for 1.3 hours. No credits awarded.
PAC-04-A-204-A 21 SEP 04 (ASSIST) EIELSON CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to assist in the search of two overdue hunters. Two brother`s (ages 26 and 28) were two days overdue from a hunting trip in the Dall River area. Eielson (EIL) CAP responded and located the overdue hunters on a sandbar. They did not need any assistance and self-recovered. EIL CAP flew one sortie for 1.8 hours. Two located awarded.
PAC-04-A-206-S 22 SEP 04 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to an FAA report of an overturned aircraft near Mt Spur. Anchorage CAP (ANC CAP) was tasked and responded with a search aircraft. The ANC CAP aircrew made contact with the pilot who initially reported the overturned aircraft, and he reported seeing a helicopter leaving the search area with the incident aircraft slung underneath. ANC CAP flew one sortie for 3.0 hours. No credits awarded.

Mission opened in response to SARSAT and FAA reports of an ELT in the Palmer area. Birchwood (BCV) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft which located and silenced the non-distress ELT, in an aircraft at Wolf Lake Airstrip. BCV CAP flew one sortie for 0.5 hours. No credits awarded.
PAC-04-A-209-S 26 SEP 04 (SAR) EIELSON CAP
Mission opened in response to FAA reports of an overdue aircraft (o/d acft) near Blair Lakes. Eielson (EIL) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft. While they were searching, 11RCC learned that the o/d acft made contact with the AK State Troopers. They confirmed they were not in distress and passed their current position. EIL CAP flew one sortie for 2.1 hours. One located awarded.
PAC-04-A-210-S 27 SEP 04 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP & FCC
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Whittier area. Anchorage (ANC) CAP was tasked and responded with a ground team, which tracked the ELT for several hours, but could not locate it. The following morning the FCC was tasked and also responded with a ground team, which located a non-distress EPIRB on a dry docked vessel. They believe it was activated by high winds. The ANC CAP ground team searched for 8.0 hours and claimed no expenses. The FCC ground team searched for 4.8 hours. No credits awarded.
PAC-04-A-211-S 28 SEP 04 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP & 210TH RQS
Mission opened in response to a report from an Anchorage (ANC) CAP member of a possible aircraft crash near One Stone Lake. ANC CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which searched until dark with negative results. The 210th RQS was tasked the following day and responded with a HH-60 helicopter, which located an aircraft that matched the description from the report. The HH-60 aircrew made contact with the owner who said that he was non-distress. ANC CAP flew one sortie for 2.2 hours and the 210th RQS HH-60 flew one sortie for 2.7 hours. No credits awarded.
