PAC-04-A-064-S 03 MAY 04 (SAR) KENAI CAP
Mission opened in response to pilot reports of an ELT in the Nikiski area. The Kenai (ENA) CAP responded with a search aircraft, which localized the ELT signal to a local airstrip. The CAP aircrew landed and converted to ground team to continue the search. They located the non-distress ELT at Clam Airstrip in a hangared aircraft undergoing maintenance. The mechanic reported that it had fallen from its jack stands the day prior resulting in the errant activation. ENA CAP flew one sortie for 0.9 hours and their ground team searched for 1.6 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-04-A-065-S 04 MAY 04 (SAR) FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Fairbanks. Fairbanks (FAI) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which localized the ELT to the FAI International Airport. A FAI CAP ground search team was then deployed, which located and secured the non-distress ELT in a parked aircraft. FAI CAP flew one sortie for 0.8 hours and their ground team searched for one hour and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-04-A-067-A 06 MAY 04 (ASSIST) SEWARD CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from the AK State Troopers (AST) in Seward to investigate a report of possible signal mirror flashes from the fort atop Caines Heads. Seward (SWD) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which searched the area but were unable to locate anyone in distress. The CAP aircrew surmised that the flashes came from a metal sign blowing in the wind or solar panel. SWD CAP flew one sortie for 1.2 hours. No credits awarded.
PAC-04-A-068-A 06 MAY 04 (ASSIST) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from USCG D17 in Juneau to assist in the search for an ELT near Kalgin Island. Kenai (ENA) CAP was tasked and diverted a search aircraft from a training flight to assist. The CAP aircraft located the ELT onboard an aircraft that had landed due to a starter problem, but required no assistance. ENA CAP flew one sortie for 2.1 hours. One located awarded

Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from USCG D17 to assist in the search for an overdue boat west of Prince of Wales Island. Juneau (JNU) CAP was tasked, however the USCG located the overdue boat prior to the CAP aircraft’s departure. JNU CAP flew no sorties or hours. No credits awarded.

Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the fairbanks (FAI) area. FAI CAP was tasked and responded with a ground search team, which located and secured the non-distress ELT in a parked vehicle. The FAI CAP ground team searched for 4.5 hours and claimed no expenses. PAC-04-A-072-S 14 MAY 04 (SAR) FAIRBANKS CAP & 68TH MEDCO
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Ray Mountains northeast of Tanana. Fairbanks CAP (FAI CAP) was tasked and responded with a search aircraft which located a distressed Austrian national whose intentions were to float down the Tozitna River but was injured and needed help. The 68th MEDCO was then tasked and responded with a UH-60 helicopter, which successfully recovered the patient to the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. FAI CAP flew two sorties for 5.9 hours. The 68th MEDCO UH-60 flew two sorties for 3.0 hours. One save awarded.
PAC-04-A-073-S 15 MAY 04 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Anchorage International Airport. Anchorage (ANC) CAP was tasked and responded with a ground search team, which located the non-distress ELT in an aircraft moored at Lake Hood Seaplane Base. 11RCC contacted the registered owner who then secured the ELT. The ANC CAP ground team searched for one hour and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-04-A-074-S 15 MAY 04 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP & ELMENDORF CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Knik Arm. Elmendorf (EDF) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft that was unable to locate the ELT. Birchwood (BCV) CAP was then tasked the next day and responded with a ground search team. The BCV CAP ground team picked up a strong ELT signal at the BCV airport, however the signal abruptly stopped during the search. The ELT ceased with three SARSAT missed passes. EDF CAP flew one sortie for 1.9 hours. The BCV CAP ground team searched for 0.5 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-04-A-075-A 17 MAY 04 (ASSIST) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from the AK State Troopers (AST) in Kodiak, to search for an overdue teenager near Old Harbor. Kodiak CAP was tasked, however they were unable to respond due to a lack of available air crews. Kodiak AST no longer required assistance and the mission was closed. Kodiak CAP flew no sorties or hours. No credits awarded.

ANC CAP was tasked and diverted a search aircraft from a training flight, however they were unable to pick up any ELT signals. ANC CAP then deployed a ground team, which was also unable to pick up any ELT signals. The ELT subsequently ceased with three SARSAT missed passes. ANC CAP flew one sortie for .6 hours and their ground team searched for 2.0 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from USCG D17 to search for an overdue boater in Sitka Sound. The boater was in a 12-foot skiff and had not returned to Sitka as planned. Juneau (JNU) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft. A USCG helicopter was also tasked to search. The USCG helicopter located and recovered the overdue boater to USCG Air Station Sitka. Juneau CAP flew one sortie for 3.0 hours. One save awarded.

Mission opened in response to an AK State Trooper (AST) request for assistance to search for three overdue Canadian nationals hiking from Skagway to Juneau. Juneau (JNU) CAP was tasked and was preparing to respond with multiple search aircraft, however the overdue persons were located shortly before the CAP aircraft were to launch.
