PAC-04-A-121-A 03 JUL 04 (ASSIST) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from Chugach State Park officials to search for a possible missing hiker on the Iditarod Ttrail at Eagle River. A back pack containing camping items was found near a steep drop-off to the river and park officials were concerned a person or persons may have fallen into the fast moving current. Anchorage (ANC) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which conducted multiple searches of the river with negative results. Park officials also conducted a ground search of the area, again with negative results. Park service suspended active search operations pending further developments. ANC CAP flew one sortie for 1.5 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-04-A-122-S 03 JUL 04 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to an FAA report for an overdue aircraft, which departed Six Mile Lake en route to Red Shirt Lake. Birchwood (BCV) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located the overdue aircraft at Red Shirt Llake, non-distress. BCV CAP flew one sortie and for 1.4 hours. One located awarded.

PAC-04-A-123-S 06 JUL 04 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT and FAA reports of an ELT in the vicinity of Anchorage (ANC). ANC CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, however the ELT ceased before the CAP aircrew could locate the signal. ANC CAP flew one sortie for 1.1 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-04-A-125-S 06 JUL 04 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Wasilla. Anchorage CAP (ANC CAP) was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located the non-distress ELT in a float plane moored at Wolf Lake. ANC CAP contacted a neighbor of the owner of the plane, who secured the ELT. ANC CAP flew one sortie for 1.5 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-04-A-127-S 09 JUL 04 (SAR) KENAI CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Skilak Lake. Kenai CAP (ENA CAP) was tasked and responded with a search aircraft. A Forest Service helicopter which was in the area working a forest fire and assisting the ENA CAP located the non-distress ELT in a float plane moored at Upper Russian Lake. The helicopter contacted the pilot who secured the ELT that was accidentally bumped on by a passenger. ENA CAP flew one sortie for 1.2 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-04-A-128-S 09 JUL 04 (SAR) KENAI CAP
This mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in Anchorage (ANC). Kenai (ENA) CAP was tasked since they were already airborne on a previous ELT search, and responded with a search aircraft. The CAP aircrew localized the ELT to a hangar or acft located at ANC Int’l Airport. ANC Intl Airport police responded with a ground team and located the ELT non-distress in a maintenance hangar. ENA CAP flew one sortie for 1.1 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-04-A-129-S 11 JUL 04 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Beluga Mountain. Anchorage Center (FAA) also reported an airborne aircraft receiving an ELT in the area. Birchwood (BCV) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which had negative results and the ELT signal ceased while they were searching. BCV CAP flew one sortie for 1.4 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-04-A-130-S 11 JUL 04 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in Anchorage. Birchwood (BCV) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which locatalized the ELT to Anchorage Int’l Airport. Airport Safety was notified who then tracked down the source with a ground team, and secured the non-distress ELT. BCV CAP flew two sorties for 1.3 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-04-A-131-S 11 JUL 04 (SAR) FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT and aircraft reports of an ELT near Nenana. Fairbanks (FAI) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, however the CAP aircrew were unable to pick up any ELT signals and they could find no signs of distress. The ELT ceased, and the CAP aircrew returned to FAI. FAI CAP flew one sortie for 1.0 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-04-A-132-S 14 JUL 04 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Skwentna. Anchorage (ANC) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located the non-distress ELT in a float plane moored on an un-named lake. The CAP aircrew was able to contact the owner/operator who then secured the ELT. The CAP aircrew was then diverted to investigate another ELT near Talkeetna and tracked the signal to the airport, however it ceased before being located. ANC CAP flew one sortie for 3.7 hours. One located awarded.

PAC-04-A-134-A 15 JUL 04 (ASSIST) FAIRBANKS CAP & 68TH MEDCO
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from the AK State Troopers (AST) in Fairbanks, to search for three children missing since the evening of 14 Jul. The children were left alone playing at their new residence. When the parents returned, all the children were missing. The 68th MEDCO and Fairbanks CAP were both tasked and responed with a UH-60 helicopter and two search aircraft. During the search, a Fairbanks AST dog team located the children non-distress at a North Pole residence. The 68th MEDCO UH-60 flew one sortie for 1.4 hours. Fairbanks CAP flew two sorties for 1.7 hours. Three located awarded.

PAC-04-A-136-S 18 JUL 04 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP & 210TH RQS
Mission opened in response to a report from an Anchorage (ANC) CAP aircraft airborne on a training flight that sighted an airplane in distress. The distressed aircraft was observed inverted next to a gravel trail near the mouth of the Susitna River. The CAP aircrew was unable to determine if there were occupants onboard the distressed aircraft. The 210th RQS was then tasked and responded with an HH-60G helicopter to investigate the crash site. While at the scene, the pilot of the distressed aircraft arrived in a ground vehicle. The 210th RQS pararescue crew assessed that he had no injuries and was released. ANC CAP flew one sortie for 3.7 hours. The 210th RQS HH-60g flew one sortie for 0.7 hours. Two located awarded.

PAC-04-A-138-A 19 JUL 04 (ASSIST) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from the AK State Troopers (AST) in Kotzebue (OTZ), to search for an overdue skiff. The skiff with an elderly native man onboard departed OTZ for Shishmaref on 17 Jul. OTZ CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft. A USCG D17 helicopter also assisting AST located the skiff and transported the elderly man, who was in good condition, to Shishmaref. OTZ CAP flew two sorties for 3.7 hours. One assist awarded.

PAC-04-A-140-S 22 JUL 04 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP & 210TH RQS
Mission opened in response to aircraft and SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Lake George area. Anchorage (ANC) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located a crashed aircraft in a steep canyon near the Knik River. The 210th RQS was then tasked and responded with an HC-130 and an HH-60G helicopter to recover the downed pilot. The HH-60G transported the pilot to Providence Hospital in Anchorage. ANC CAP flew one sortie for 3.4 hours. The 210th RQS HC-130 flew one sortie for 2.1 hours and their HH-60G flew one sortie for 1.3 hours. One save awarded.

PAC-04-A-141-S 24 JUL 04 (SAR) BETHEL CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT 80 miles east of Bethel. Bethel CAP (BET CAP) was tasked and responded with two search aircraft, which located a distressed aircraft at Cinnabar Airstrip after it crashed on takeoff. United Airlines 895 was in radio contact with distressed pilot and helped direct the BET CAP aircraft to the mishap location. The BET CAP aircraft landed and recovered the pilot and passenger to Bethel. BET CAP flew six sorties for 10.6 hours. Two assists awarded.

PAC-04-A-142-S 25 JUL 04 (SAR) KENAI CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Kenai (ENA). ENA CAP was tasked and responded with a ground search team, which located the non-distress ELT in a float plane moored at the ENA Airport Float Plane Basin, and secured it. The ENA CAP ground team searched for 3.5 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-04-A-143-S 26 JUL 04 (SAR) FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to an FAA report of an overdue aircraft flying from Galena to Tanana. All of the phone lines in Tanana were down. Fairbanks CAP (FAI CAP) was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located the overdue aircraft in Tanana non-distress. A note was left on the aircraft for the pilot to close out his flight plan. FAI CAP flew one sortie for 2.2 hours. No credits awarded.
