PAC-04-A-001-A 02 JAN 04 (ASSIST) JUNEAU CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers (AST) to assist in the search for two missing hunters, one 13 year old male and his father. The hunters were traveling by boat, near the village of Kake, with a third party who was found deceased along with their overturned boat. Juneau (JNU) CAP was tasked and responded with an aircraft and searched for three days. During the three day search the father was located deceased by USCG D17. The mission was suspended by both USCG D17 and AST. JNU CAP flew five sorties for 22.2 hours. One deceased and one missing awarded.
PAC-04-A-002-S 09 JAN 04 (SAR) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened due to SARSAT reports of an ELT located 30 miles north of Huslia, along with the AK State Troopers (AST) in Fairbanks (FAI) request for assistance in searching for an overdue snowmobiler in the same area. Kotzebue (OTZ) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which despite severe turbulence and high winds located the source of the ELT. A three member ground search party became trapped in a blizzard and had activated their ELT. The ground team took refuge in a nearby cabin, and secured their ELT. The CAP aircrew located the ground team while they were making contact with FAI AST via sat phone. The overdue snowmobiler was located by a second ground team and was also waiting in a cabin for weather to improve. OTZ CAP flew two sorties for 4.5 hours. Three located awarded.
PAC-04-A-004-S 12 JAN 04 (SAR) VALDEZ CAP & FCC
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an emergency beacon in the Valdez area. Valdez CAP was tasked and responded with a ground search team, however they were unable to pick up any beacon signals. The FCC in Anchorage was then tasked and responded with a ground search team, which located the non-distress beacon (EPIRB) in a vessel at the Valdez Harbor and silenced it. The Valdez CAP ground team searched for 1.5 hours and claimed no expenses. The FCC ground team searched for 32 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-04-A-007-S 23 JAN 04 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP & BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Anchorage (ANC) area. Birchwood (BCV) CAP and Anchorage (ANC) CAP were both tasked and responded with ground teams. BCV CAP located and silenced a non-distress ELT in a hangar at BCV airport. The RCC continued to receive SARSAT reports. ANC CAP was then tasked. The ANC CAP ground team located and silenced another non-distress ELT in an ANC residence. The BCV CAP ground team searched for 1.0 hours and claimed no expenses. The ANC CAP ground team searched for 1.0 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-04-A-008-A 23 JAN 04 (ASSIST) JUNEAU CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from USCG D17 (Juneau RCC), to investigate an unmanned skiff near Berner’s Bay. Juneau (JNU) CAP was tasked and responded with two search aircraft, which located the skiff and reported it to be unmanned and to be free of equipment or supplies. USCG D17 determined after further investigation that the skiff was a non-distress derelict. JNU CAP flew two sorties for 3.0 hours. No credits awarded.
PAC-04-A-010-S 27 JAN 04 (SAR) FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened is response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Fairbanks (FAI) area. FAI CAP was tasked and responded with a ground team, which located the non-distress ELT in a hangar at the FAI airport. The ELT was silenced and three SARSAT missed passes were received. The FAI CAP ground team searched for 1.0 hour and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-04-A-011-S 29 JAN 04 (SAR) FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Fairbanks (FAI). FAI CAP was tasked and responded with a ground search team, however the ELT signal ceased before the source could be located. The FAI CAP ground team searched for 0.3 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-04-A-012-A 29 JAN 04 (ASSIST) FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to assist in the search of an overdue hunter near Huslia. The 40 year old female was on a one-day hunting trip. She was located non-distress. The Fairbanks CAP responded with a c-206. They flew one sortie for 3.9 hours. One located was awarded.
