PAC-04-A-145-S 31 JUL 04 (SAR) SEWARD CAP & LIFEGUARD
Mission opened in response to FAA reports of an ELT in the Kustatan/Big River area. A Seward CAP aircraft was diverted from a training flight to search and located a crashed aircraft. Lifeguard responded with a helicopter and located four deceased occupants. Lifeguard remained on scene until the AK State Troopers arrived. NTSB silenced the ELT when they went to investigate the site. Seward CAP flew one sortie for 2.3 hours and lifeguard flew two sorties for 1.3 hours. Four deceased.

PAC-04-A-146-S 31 JUL 04 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in Broad Pass. Anchorage CAP (ANC CAP) was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which localized the non-distress beacon to a camp of four wheelers. The beacon ceased after a fly-over by the ANC CAP aircraft. ANC CAP flew one sortie for 2.9 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-04-A-147-S 02 AUG 04 (SAR) FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an emergency beacon in the Fairbanks area. Fairbanks CAP was tasked and responded with a ground team, and a search aircraft. The search aircraft narrowed the search area, and the ground team located the non-distress ELT in a Fairbanks residence. The owner of the ELT had removed the ELT from his airplane and transported it in a vehicle to his home. It had been inadvertantly activated. Fairbanks CAP flew one sortie for 1.0 hour, and a ground team searched for 4.0 hours. No expenses were claimed. No credits awarded.

PAC-04-A-150-A 04 AUG 04 (ASSIST) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened in response to a request from the AK State Troopers to assist in the search for three overdue boaters between Selawik and Kotzebue. Kotzebue CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft. A commercial aircraft located the overdues and notified the CAP, which dropped rations and guided the search boats to the overdue’s location. Kotzebue CAP flew one sortie for 2.6 hours. Three assists awarded.

PAC-04-A-153-S 07 AUG 04 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Beluga Mountain. Anchorage (ANC) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located an aircraft that crashed on take-off from a private airstrip. The crash was reported earlier to ANC ROC (FAA) who advised the pilot was not injured and self-recovered. The ANC CAP flew one sorties for 1.6 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-04-A-154-S 07 AUG 04 (SAR) ELMENDORF CAP
Mission opened in response to a report of wreckage spotted near Widgeon Lake. The wreckage was not listed in the 11RCC crash database. Elmendorf CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, however they were unable to locate the described wreckage. They did locate an old wreck nearby that is in the RCC database. Elmendorf CAP flew one sortie for 4.4 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-04-A-155-A 07 AUG 04 (ASSIST) SEWARD CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from the AK State Troopers (AST) to locate and determine LZ for medevac of an injured biker near lost lake. Seward CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft. They were unable to locate the biker due to heavy spruce coverage. An AST ground team subsequently located and transported the biker to safety. Seward CAP flew one sortie for 0.9 hours. One assist awarded.

PAC-04-A-156-S 07 AUG 04 (SAR) ELMENDORF CAP & AK STATE TROOPERS
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Chickaloon Pass. Elmendorf (EDF) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located a crashed aircraft with two people onboard. The survivors were uninjured but could not self-recover. The AK State Troopers (AST) were then tasked and responded with a search helicopter which transported the two survivors to Wolf Lake. EDF CAP flew one sortie for 2.0 hours. The AST helicopter flew one sortie for 1.3 hours. Two assists awarded.

PAC-04-A-159-S 09 AUG 04 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Anchorage area. Anchorage CAP was tasked and responded with a ground team to search. The errant ELT was located and secured by USAF personnel on a C-5 parked on hardstand # 40 at Elmendorf AFB. The Anchorage CAP ground team searched for .5 hours and claimed zero expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-04-A-161-S 11 AUG 04 (SAR) FAIRBANKS CAP & 210TH RQS
Mission opened in response to multiple aircraft reports of an ELT signal near Fairbanks (FAI). The 210th RQS was tasked and responded with an HC-130 to search. The HC-130 crew heard the ELT signal near FAI, but they were unable to locate it. FAI CAP was tasked and responded with a ground team, which localized the ELT to FAI Int’l Airport, however it ceased before they were able to locate the source. The 210th RQS HC-130 flew one sortie for .6 hours. The FAI CAP ground team searched for 1.5 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-04-A-162-S 12 AUG 04 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT west of Anchorage (ANC). ANC CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which localized the ELT to the Highland Road area near Eagle River. An ANC CAP ground team search of the area failed to locate the source of the ELT, which subsequently ceased. ANC CAP flew one sortie for 2.2 hours and their ground team searched for 1.5 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-04-A-163-S 12 AUG 04 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP & FCC
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Eagle River. The Anchorage (ANC) CAP was tasked and responded with both a search aircraft and a ground team but both were initially unable to locate the source of the ELT. The FCC in Anchorage was then tasked and responded with a ground team, but they were also unable to locate the source of the ELT. A follow-on search by the ANC CAP located the errant ELT in a parked aircraft near Finger Lake. The ELT was secured followed by three SARSAT missed passes. ANC CAP flew one sortie for 1.3 hours, and their ground team searched for 9.0 hours and claimed $19.85 for expenses. The FCC ground team searched for 4.0 hours. No credits awarded

PAC-04-A-164-S 12 AUG 04 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP & BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Ptarmigan Pass. Birchwood CAP (BCV CAP) and Anchorage CAP (ANC CAP) were tasked and responded with search aircraft. BCV CAP located an airplane and helo in the vicinity of Big River with no signs of distress; ELT then ceased. ANC CAP flew two sorties for 4.9 hours and BCV CAP flew two sorties for 5.8 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-04-A-166-S 15 AUG 04 (SAR)KENAI CAP
Mission opened in response to FAA reports of a downed aircraft 100 yards off shore from the Seward Dry Dock. Kenai (ENA) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft. USCG D17 also responded with the Cutter Mustang, which assisted in rescuing the three occupants, two of which were pronounced deceased at the local hospital. ENA CAP flew one sortie for 3.1 hours. One save and two deceased.

PAC-04-A-167-S 16 AUG 04 (SAR) FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Fairbanks (FAI) area. FAI CAP was tasked and responded with a ground team, which located the non-distress ELT in a parked aircraft at the FAI airport. The ELT was secured followed by three SARSAT missed passes. The FAI CAP ground team searched for 1.5 hours and claimed no expensed. No credits awarded.

PAC-04-A-169-S 17 AUG 04 (SAR) HOMER CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Kachemak Bay area. Homer CAP was tasked and responded with a ground team to search. The CAP ground team located the non-distress ELT in an aircraft parked at the Homer Airport and secured it. The Homer CAP ground team searched for 2.0 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-04-A-170-S 18 AUG 04 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Anchorage area. Birchwood CAP had an aircraft airborne on a training flight, which was tasked to search. The ELT was located non-distress in a parked aircraft at the Birchwood Airport. The owner secured the ELT and three SARSAT missed passes were received. Birchwood CAP flew one sortie for 1.2 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-04-A-172-S 21 AUG 04 (SAR) KENAI CAP
Mission opened in response to a report from Sparrevohn Long Range Radar Site (LRRS), FAA Regional Operations Center and SARSAT of an ELT in the vicinity of Sparrevohn LRRS. Kenai CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft. Kenai Flight Service Station (ENA FSS) reported that they received a call from a civilian pilot who said he was near Sparrevohn and that his ELT was malfunctioning and had turned it off. The Sparrevohn LRRS station chief verified that the ELT had ceased and the ENA CAP was directed to return to base. Kenai CAP flew one sortie for 2.4 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-04-A-176-A 23 AUG 04 (ASSIST) JUNEAU CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance the AK State Troopers in Juneau (JNU) to search for an overdue hiker near Juneau. JNU CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located the overdue hiker and directed an AST ground team to his location. JNU CAP flew one sortie for 1.5 hours. One save awarded.

PAC-04-A-177-A 23 AUG 04 (ASSIST) BIRCHWOOD CAP & NPS
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Kantishna. The Denali National Park Service (NPS) was notified and responded with a search helicopter but was unable to locate the source of the ELT. Birchwood (BCV) CAP was then tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located the non-distress ELT in an abandoned roadhouse near Kantishna. The ELT was secured followed by three SARSAT missed passes. The Denali NPS helicopter flew two sorties for 2.5 hours. BCV CAP flew one sortie for 3.7 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-04-A-179-S 25 AUG 04 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Wasilla. Anchorage (ANC) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located the ELT non-distress in a parked aircraft. An ANC CAP ground team was then dispatched to secure the ELT. ANC CAP flew one sortie for 2.6 hours, and their ground team searched for 5.5 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.
