PAC-03-A-236-A 30 SEP 03 (ASSIST) FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from the AK State Troopers (AST), to search for an overdue canoeist near Circle. The canoeist did not reach his destination and the canoe was found swamped and unoccupied. Fairbanks (FAI) CAP was tasked and responded with two search aircraft, which extensively searched the entire area with negative results. FAI AST suspended aerial search efforts, and released FAI CAP from the mission. The mission was reopened upon request from AST due to new leads. FAI CAP searched entire area again with negative results, and the mission was closed. FAI CAP flew seven sorties for 24.9 hours. One missing awarded.
PAC-03-A-237-S 03 OCT 03 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT and aircraft reports of an ELT near Mount Susitna. Birchwood (BCV) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, however no ELT signals were picked up and no signs of distress were found. The ELT ceased and the mission was closed. BCV CAP flew one sortie for 1.7 hours. No credits awarded.
PAC-03-A-239-S 08 OCT 03 (SAR) EIELSON CAP & FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Fairbanks area. Fairbanks (FAI) and Eielson (EIL) CAP were tasked and responded with a search aircraft and ground teams. EIL CAP located and silenced the non-distress ELT, in an aircraft parked in a North Pole residential area. FAI CAP flew one sortie for 0.7 hours, and their ground team searched for 2.5 hours claiming no expenses. The EIL CAP ground team searched for 4.0 hours and claimed $25.00 for expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-03-A-240-S 09 OCT 03 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP & BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Palmer. Anchorage (ANC) CAP was tasked and diverted a search aircraft from a training flight, which localized the signal to the Wasilla area. Birchwood (BCV) CAP was then tasked and responded with a ground search team, which located and silenced the non-distress ELT in a maintenance shop at the BCV airport. ANC CAP flew one sortie for 2.4 hours. The BCV CAP ground team searched for 0.2 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-03-A-242-A 17 OCT 03 (ASSIST) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from the AK State Troopers (AST) in Kotzebue (OTZ), to search for an overdue boat with two persons onboard. The boat departed Noorvik for OTZ, but failed to arrive. OTZ CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located the overdue boat 11 miles west of Noorvik. The boat had engine problems and later became immobilized by ice. The OTZ CAP aircraft directed a rescue boat from Noorvik to the location, and the rescue boat recovered the two boaters to Noorvik. OTZ CAP flew two sorties for 3.3 hours. Two saves awarded.
PAC-03-A-244-A 19 OCT 03 (ASSIST) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from the AK State Troopers (AST) in Kotzebue (OTZ), to search for an overdue boater near OTZ. OTZ CAP was tasked and responded with two search aircraft, which located the overdue boater and guided a rescue boat to his location. The rescue boat then recovered the boater to OTZ. OTZ CAP flew four sorties for 6.5 hours. One save awarded.
PAC-03-A-246-S 26 OCT 03 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in Anchorage (ANC). ANC CAP was tasked and responded with two ground search teams, which located the non-distress ELT in a hangared airplane and secured it. The ANC CAP ground teams searched for 6.0 hours, and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.
