PAC-03-A-044-A 01 MAR 03 (ASSIST) JUNEAU CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from Juneau RCC (USCG D17) to search for an overdue vessel near Yakutat. Juneau CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, however poor weather in the search area forced the aircraft to return to Juneau. The overdue vessel subsequently self-recovered to the Yakutat Harbor, and Juneau CAP was released from the mission. Juneau CAP flew one sortie for 1.3 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-045-S 02 MAR 03 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Anchorage area. Anchorage CAP was tasked and responded with a ground team. The ground team located the non-distress ELT in a parked aircraft at Merrill Field, and was silenced. The Anchorage CAP ground team searched for 1.5 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-046-S 04 MAR 03 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP / FCC
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an emergency beacon in the Eagle River area. Birchwood CAP was tasked and responded with a ground team, but was unable to locate the source of the signal. The FCC was tasked and continued the search by providing a ground team, which located an old EPIRB at a residence in Eagle River, and silenced it. The Birchwood CAP ground team searched for 4.5 hours, and the FCC ground team searched for 2.0 hours. Neither claimed any expenses and no credits were awarded.

PAC-03-A-047-A 06 MAR 03 (ASSIST) KODIAK CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from Juneau RCC (USCG D17) to search for an ELT in Kodiak. Kodiak CAP was tasked and responded with a ground team, which located the non-distress ELT in a raft at the Kodiak High School swimming pool. The Kodiak CAP ground team searched for 1.5 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-048-S 06 MAR 03 (SAR) BETHEL CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Bethel. Bethel CAP was tasked and responded with a ground team, which located the non-distress ELT in a parked aircraft at the Bethel Airport. The ELT was silenced and three SARSAT missed passes were received. The Bethel CAP ground team searched for 0.5 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-049-S 06 MAR 03 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Anchorage area. Anchorage CAP was tasked and responded with a ground team, which was unable to pick up any ELT signals. The ELT ceased, and 11RCC received three SARSAT missed passes. The Anchorage CAP ground team searched for 2.5 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-050-S 09 MAR 03 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Farewell area. Anchorage CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, but was unable to pick up any ELT signals, and located no signs of distress. 11RCC received three SARSAT missed passes, and the Anchorage CAP search aircraft returned to Anchorage. Anchorage CAP flew one sortie for 3.9 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-052-A 12 MAR 03 (ASSIST) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from the AK State Troopers (AST) in Kotzebue (OTZ), to recover a 30 year old man at the Midnight Sun Lodge, near Kivalina. The man was suffering from upper g.i. bleeding and a swollen liver, which was life-threatening. Civilian air ambulances were unable to accomplish the mission due to airstrip length and condition, so OTZ CAP was tasked. The OTZ CAP aircraft with paramedic on board successfully completed the mission and transported the injured patient to the OTZ clinic embergency room. OTZ CAP flew two sorties for 1.5 hours. One save awarded.

PAC-03-A-056-S 25 MAR 03 (SAR) ELMENDORF CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT and aircraft reports, of an ELT northeast of Palmer. Elmendorf CAP was tasked and responded with a ground team, which located the non-distress ELT in a parked aircraft at the Wasilla Airport, and deactivated it. The Elmendorf ground team searched for 6.0 hrs and claimed $18.00 for expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-057-A 27 MAR 03 (ASSIST) BETHEL CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from the AK State Troopers (AST) in Bethel, to search for an overdue snowmobiler SW of Bethel. The 48 year old male was transporting a friend’s snowmobile to Tununak and was last seen in Tuntutuliak. Bethel CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, however the search yielded negative results. The next morning, the overdue snowmobiler self-recovered by walking into Nightmute, after his snowmobile broke down. AST no longer required assistance, and the mission was closed. Bethel CAP flew one sortie for 1.5 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-058-A 27 MAR 03 (ASSIST) JUNEAU CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from Juneau RCC (USCG D17) to search for an overdue boater near Wrangell. The 12 year old male departed Wrangell in a skiff the previous evening, and failed to return. Juneau CAP (JNU CAP) responded with three search aircraft. The overdue boater was located by civilian rescuers along a beach, and was transported to Wrangell. JNU CAP flew a total of four sorties for 9.5 hours. One save awarded.

PAC-03-A-059-S 28 MAR 03 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Palmer/Wasilla area. Birchwood CAP was tasked and responded with a ground team, which located the non-distress ELT in a parked aircraft at the Wasilla Airport. The ground team secured the ELT and left a note for the owner. The birchwood CAP ground team searched for 1.5 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-060-S 29 MAR 03 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to an FAA report of an overdue aircraft flying from Talkeetna to Clarence Lake. The pilot was checking on future sites for bear hunting, and failed to return to Talkeetna. Birchwood CAP was tasked, however prior to launching their search aircraft, the overdue pilot made contact with an overflying aircraft, and requested that a civilian air service be contacted to assist him. He was uninjured, but his acft was stuck in deep snow. The civilian air service recovered the pilot, and the mission was closed. No sorties or hours were flown, and no credits were awarded.
