PAC-03-A-114-S 29 MAY 03 (SAR) FAIRBANKS CAP & EIELSON CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Fairbanks area. Fairbanks (FAI) and Eielson (EIL) CAP were tasked and responded with ground search teams, which located several non-distress ELT’s in parked aircraft and secured them. The FAI CAP ground team searched for a 4.5 hrs and claimed $20.00 in expenses. The EIL CAP ground team searched for 1.9 hrs and claimed $37.00 in expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-116-S 02 JUN 03 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to faa and SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Big Lake area. Birchwood (BCV) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located the non-distress ELT in a parked aircraft at a private airstrip 12 miles north of Anchorage. The aircraft’s owner noticed the over-flying CAP aircraft and deactivated his errant ELT. BCV CAP flew one sortie for 2.1 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-117-S 02 JUN 03 (SAR) EIELSON CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Fairbanks area. Eielson CAP (EIL CAP) was tasked and responded with a ground team which located the non-distress ELT in a hangar at Chena Marina, the same as in mission 2003-0114. The ELT was secured and three SARSAT missed passes were received. The EIL CAP ground team searched for 6.0 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-118-S 03 JUN 03 (SAR) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened in response to a mayday call relayed through Kotzebue (OTZ) Flight Service, of an aircraft in distress eight miles south of Buckland (BVK). OTZ CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located the distressed aircraft on a gravel bar in the Buckland River. The CAP aircraft was unable to land, and therefore returned to BVK to guide a private boat upstream. The boat crew recovered the distressed pilot and transported him to BVK. OTZ CAP then escorted the boat to BVK. OTZ CAP flew three sorties for 2.5 hrs. One save awarded.

PAC-03-A-119-S 03 JUN 03 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Anchorage area. Anchorage CAP (ANC CAP) was tasked and responded with a ground search team, which located and silenced the non-distress ELT in an Anchorage residence. The ANC CAP ground team searched for 13.75 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-120-S 05 JUN 03 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to aircraft and SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Anchorage (ANC) area. ANC CAP was tasked and responded with a ground search team, however they only received the ELT signal for a short period of time, and were unable to locate it. The ELT was subsequently located non-distress in a hangar at Merrill Field by maintenance personnel, who secured it. The ANC CAP ground team searched for 1.0 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-122-S 07 JUN 03 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened due to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Anchorage area. Birchwood (BCV) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, however following take-off their DF gear localized the signal non-distress to the BCV Airport. BCV CAP then responded with a ground search team, which located the ELT in a hangared aircraft, and had the owner secure it. BCV CAP flew one sortie for 0.7 hours, and their ground team searched for 0.5 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-123-S 07 JUN 03 (SAR) FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT located in Fairbanks (FAI). FAI CAP was tasked and responded with a ground search team, which assisted FAI Airport Security in locating the ELT. The non-distress ELT was located in a hangared aircraft at the airport, and was secured. The FAI CAP ground team searched for 1.0 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-124-S 09 JUN 03 (SAR) BETHEL CAP & AK STATE TROOPERS
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an EPIRB near Kotlik. The AK State Troopers (AST) and Bethel (BET) CAP were tasked and responded to locate the signal. BET CAP did not have a pilot available, so AST provided an aircraft to transport the CAP ground team to Kotlik. While the AST aircraft was en route, the non-distress EPIRB was located and deactivated by locals, who reported that children had errantly activated it. The AST aircraft returned to Bethel, and the EPIRB signal ceased. AST flew one sortie for 1.0 hours, and the BET CAP ground team searched for 1.0 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-125-S 09 JUN 03 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened due to aircraft and SARSAT reports of an ELT located in the Anchorage (ANC) area. ANC CAP was tasked and responded with a ground search team, which located the non-distress ELT in a moored floatplane at Lake Hood Seaplane Base. The mechanic, who accidentally activated the ELT, secured the beacon and the signal ceased. The ANC CAP ground team searched for 0.7 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded

PAC-03-A-126-S 11 JUN 03 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP & AK STATE TROOPERS
Mission opened in response to SARSAT and aircraft reports of an ELT 30 miles NE of Talkeetna (TKA). Birchwood (BCV) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located two injured hikers (one military/one civilian) who had set off their emergency beacon. The AK State Troopers (AST) were then tasked to recover the hikers, and responded with their AS-350B3 helicopter. The BCV CAP aircraft directed the AST helicopter on-scene, and the hikers were recovered to TKA. BCV CAP flew one sortie for 5.2 hours, and the AST helicopter flew one sortie for 1.9 hours. One save and one assist awarded.

PAC-03-A-128-S 13 JUN 03 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP & 210TH RQS
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT located near Palmer. The 210th RQS was tasked and diverted an HH-60 helicopter from a local training mission. The HH-60 aircrew localized the non-distress ELT to the Wolf Lake Airstrip, but were unable to determine which aircraft had the active ELT. The next morning, a birchwood (BCV) CAP aircraft landed at the airstrip and located the ELT in a parked aircraft. The owner was contacted, and the ELT was secured. The 210th RQS HH-60 flew one sortie for 0.5 hours and BCV CAP flew one sortie for 0.7 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-130-S 14 JUN 03 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to an FAA report of an overdue aircraft flying from Homer to King Salmon (AKN). Anchorage (ANC) CAP was tasked however, prior to the CAP aircraft’s departure, the overdue aircraft self-recovered to AKN. The overdue pilot had been waiting for weather to improve. The FAA overdue aircraft report was canceled, and ANC CAP was released from the mission. No sorties or hours were flown. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-132-S 16 JUN 03 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Birchwood (BCV). BCV CAP was tasked and responded with a ground search team, which located the non-distress ELT in a residential area and secured it. The BCV CAP ground team searched for 1.5 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-135-S 17 JUN 03 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Anchorage (ANC) area. ANC CAP was tasked and diverted a search aircraft from a training mission. The CAP aircrew noticed a crashed aircraft at the Lake Hood Airstrip in ANC, and determined that this was the source of the ELT. ANC International Airport Fire/Rescue were already on-scene assisting the uninjured pilot, and they secured the aircraft’s ELT. The ANC CAP aircraft continued with its training mission, and the ELT ceased. ANC CAP flew one sortie for 0.2 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-136-A 18 JUN 03 (ASSIST) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from the Alaska State Troopers (AST) in Kotzebue (OTZ) to assist in the search for a distressed vessel near Cape Blossom. OTZ CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located the distressed vessel adrift in the water and sea ice. The CAP aircraft arranged for a civilian rescue boat, which recovered the distressed vessel and its two occupants, and transported them to safety. OTZ CAP flew two sorties for 2.1 hours. Two assists awarded.

PAC-03-A-137-A 18 JUN 03 (ASSIST) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from the AK State Troopers (AST) to search for an overdue person participating in the Eco-Challenge Wilderness race. The search area was between Talkeetna River and Disappointment Creek. Birchwood (BCV) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft to assist AST Helo One. AST Helo One located the overdue person near River Canyon, and transported him to safety. BCV CAP flew two sorties for 4.4 hours. One save awarded.

PAC-03-A-138-S 18 JUN 03 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT, Kulis ANGB Command Post and Kenai FSS reports of an ELT in the Anchorage (ANC) area. ANC CAP was tasked and responded with a ground search team, which located and secured the non-distress ELT in a parked aircraft near the Anchorage Airport Tower. The ANC CAP ground team searched for 0.5 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded

PAC-03-A-139-S 19 JUN 03 (SAR) EIELSON CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT located near Clear AFB. Eielson CAP (EIL CAP) was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which localized the ELT to the Clear Airstrip. The EIL CAP aircrew landed to continue the search on the ground, and located the non-distress ELT in a parked aircraft. The ELT was secured by the Anderson Volunteer Fire Department. EIL CAP flew two sorties for 1.9 hours, and their ground search time was 0.5 hours with no expenses claimed. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-140-S 20 JUN 03 (SAR) VALDEZ CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Valdez. Valdez (VDZ) CAP was tasked and responded with a ground search team, which located the non-distress ELT in a parked aircraft at the VDZ airport. The ELT was secured and three SARSAT missed passes were received. The VDZ CAP ground team searched for 2.0 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-141-S 20 JUN 03 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to FAA and CAP aircraft reports of an ELT in the Anchorage (ANC) area. ANC CAP was tasked and diverted a search aircraft from a training flight. The CAP aircrew located the non-distress ELT in a parked aircraft at Merrill Field in ANC, and secured it. ANC CAP flew one sortie for 0.3 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-144-S 27 JUN 03 (SAR) ELMENDORF CAP
Mission opened in response to multiple SARSAT reports of an ELT located between Lake Clark Pass and Whittier. Elmendorf (EDF) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, however the aircrew was unable to pick up any ELT signals, and found no signs of distress. The ELT signal ceased and the mission the CAP aircraft was released. EDF CAP flew one sortie for 1.9 hours. No credits awarded.
