PAC-03-A-142-S 26 JUN 03 (SAR) ANCHORAGE, BIRCHWOOD, ELMENDORF, HOMER, KENAI & KODIAK CAP / 210TH RQS / 962ND AACS / USCG D17 / AK STATE TROOPERS
Mission opened in response to an FAA report of an overdue aircraft with 3 people onboard, flying from Hallo Bay to Homer. After an exhaustive search, no signs of the overdue aircraft or its occupants were found. The mission was suspended pending any further leads. Suspension approval was approved at 1500L on 02 Jul 03. The various CAP squadrons flew a total of 59 sorties for 163.9 hours, the 210th RQS HC-130 flew one sortie for 4.5 hours, USCG D17 flew four sorties for 17.8 hours, the 962nd AACS E-3B AWACS flew one sortie for 3.9 hours, and the AK State Troopers flew two sorties for 6.5 hours. Three missing awarded.

PAC-03-A-145-A 30 JUN 03 (ASSIST) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from the AK State Troopers (AST) to search for an overdue boat with five people on board. The overdue boat was traveling from Kobuk Lake to Kotzebue (OTZ). OTZ CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located the overdues on the west shore of Hotham Channel. Their boat was swamped and the boaters had mild hypothermia. The CAP aircraft notified AST of the location and directed a ground search party to recover them. OTZ CAP flew one sortie for 3.5 hours. Five saves awarded.

PAC-03-A-147-S 01 JUL 03 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT 30 miles east of Anchorage. Anchorage CAP was tasked and responded with a ground search team, which located the non-distress ELT at Lake Hood and secured it. The Anchorage CAP ground team searched for 4.3 hours, and claimed $21.35. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-149-A 02 JUL 03 (ASSIST) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from the Alaska State Troopers (AST) to locate an overdue boater near Noorvik. Kotzebue (OTZ) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft. The CAP aircraft located the overdue boater they were searching for as well as another boater stranded 25 miles south of Noorvik. The CAP aircrew notified AST of the boater locations, and boat teams were sent to recover them. OTZ CAP flew two sorties for 1.5 hours. Four assists awarded.

PAC-03-A-150-S 02 JUL 03 (SAR) AASF-ANCHORAGE & ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Big Indian Creek. Anchorage (ANC) CAP was tasked and responded with a ground search team, which searched the north shore of Turnagain Arm with negative results. AASF-Anchorage (AASF-ANC) was then tasked and responded with a UH-60L helicopter, which located and secured the non-distress ELT at the Hope Airport. The ANC CAP ground team searched for 2.2 hours and claimed $12.73 for expenses. The AASF-ANC UH-60L crew flew one sortie for 1.0 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-151-S 03 JUL 03 (SAR) KENAI CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Kasilof. Kenai (ENA) CAP was tasked and responded with a ground search team, which located the non-distress EPIRB near the mouth of the Kasilof River, and secured it. The ENA CAP ground team searched for 3.7 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-152-S 03 JUL 03 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Palmer area. Birchwood (BCV) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which localized the ELT to the Palmer airfield. The CAP aircrew landed and located the non-distress ELT in a hangared aircraft, and secured it. BCV CAP flew one sortie for 2.0 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-154-S 06 JUL 03 (SAR) FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to an FAA report of two overdue aircraft flying from Fairbanks to Chandalar Lake. Fairbanks (FAI) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located both of the overdue aircraft non-distress at Chandalar Lake. FAI CAP flew two sorties for 3.9 hours. Two located awarded.

PAC-03-A-155-S 07 JUL 03 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP & ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT and aircraft reports of an ELT located near Meadow Lakes. Birchwood (BCV) CAP responded with a ground team and a search aircraft. The ground team searched the Meadow Lakes area with negative results, while the BCV CAP aircraft localized two non-distress ELTs during their search; one near Lake Hood and a second ELT in a moored floatplane on Meadow Lake. An Anchorage (ANC) CAP ground team was subsequently tasked and secured the non-distress ELT at Lake Hood. BCV CAP flew one sortie for 1.0 hour, and their ground team searched for 1.0 hours claiming no expenses. The Anchorage CAP ground team searched for 0.8 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-156-S 08 JUL 03 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to multiple SARSAT reports of an ELT between Merrill Field and Elmendorf AFB. Anchorage (ANC) CAP was tasked and responded with a ground search team, which located the non-distress ELT at Merrill Field and secured it. The Anchorage CAP ground team searched for 2.3 hours, and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-157-S 12 JUL 03 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Palmer area. Birchwood CAP (BCV CAP) was tasked and responded witha search aircraft, which located and silenced the non-distress ELT in an aircraft near the Wolf Lake Airstrip. BCV CAP flew one sorties for 1.5 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-159-A 14 JUL 03 (ASSIST) JUNEAU CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from RCC Juneau (JNU) to search for an ELT NW of Haines and Skagway. JNU CAP was tasked and were about to respond with a search aircraft, when they received the word from RCC JNU to stand down. The ELT had been located at Haines Airport, non-distress. 11 RCC approved the CAP aircraft to continue with this mission number in order to expend the fuel they had put into their extended range tanks. Jnu CAP flew one sortie for 3.9 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-160-S 15 JUL 03 (SAR) BETHEL CAP
Mission opened in response to an FAA report of an overdue aircraft flying from Aleknagik to Quinhagak. The aircraft with five persons onboard failed to reach it`s destination. Bethel (BET) CAP was tasked and responded with two search aircraft, however the overdue aircraft self-recovered (non-distress) while the CAP aircraft were en route to the search area. BET CAP flew two sorties for 4.5 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-162-A 16 JUL 03 (ASSIST) KENAI CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from the AK State Troopers (AST) to locate three overdue boaters on Skilak Lake. Kenai (ENA) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located the distressed boaters and directed a Fish and Wildlife boat to their location. The three boaters were recovered and taken to safety. ENA CAP flew one sortie for 1.1 hours. Three saves awarded.

PAC-03-A-163-S 18 JUL 03 (SAR) 210TH RQS & ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Big Lake area. Anchorage (ANC) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which localized the non-distress ELT to an aircraft at a remote airstrip. The 210th RQS was subsequently tasked and responded with an HH-60 helicopter, however the aircraft departed the airstrip and flew to Anchorage, prior to the HH-60 arriving on-scene. ANC CAP then responded with a ground team, which secured the ELT at Lake Hood airstrip. ANC CAP flew one sortie for 1.5 hours, and their ground team searched for 1.5 hours claiming no expenses. The 210th RQS HH-60 flew one sortie for 0.5 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-164-S 19 JUL 03 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP & ELMENDORF CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Palmer area. Anchorage (ANC) and Elmendorf (EDF) CAP were tasked and responded with search aircraft and ground teams, which located and silenced the non-distress ELT in an Anchorage residence. ANC CAP flew one sortie for 1.9 hours. EDF CAP flew two sorties for 3.2 hours, and their ground teams searched for 2.5 hours claiming $7.25 for expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-166-S 24 JUL 03 (SAR) EIELSON CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Fairbanks area. Eielson (EIL) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft and a ground team, which located the non-distress ELT in a local land fill. The ELT subsequently ceased and three missed passes were received. EIL CAP flew one sortie for 1.8 hours, and their ground team searched for 3.5 hours claiming no expenses. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-167-S 25 JUL 03 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT located on the north side of the Knik Arm near Anchorage (ANC). ANC CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, however they were unable to pick up any ELT signals. The ELT subsequently ceased and the mission was closed. ANC CAP flew one sortie for 1.0 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-168-S 27 JUL 03 (SAR) KENAI CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Trading Bay. Kenai (ENA) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which was unable to locate the ELT. The ELT ceased moments after the CAP aircraft departed the airport. ENA CAP flew one sortie for 1.3 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-169-S 27 JUL 03 (SAR) BETHEL CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in Aniak. Bethel (BET) CAP was tasked and responded with two search aircraft, which located and secured the non-distress ELT in a parked aircraft at the Aniak Airfield. BET CAP flew four sorties for 4.4 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-171-S 29 JUL 03 (SAR) 68TH MEDCO & EIELSON CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Circle Hot Springs. Eielson (EIL) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located the ELT on Birch Creek. Two Swiss tourists had lost their boat and were surrounded by flood waters from recent heavy rains. The CAP aircrew had the tourists secure their ELT, and directed a 68th MEDCO UH-60 helicopter from Ft. Wainwright to their location. The UH-60 hoisted the two uninjured individuals and transported them to safety. EIL CAP flew one sortie for 2.8 hours, and the 68th MEDCO UH-60 flew one sortie for 2.5 hours. Two saves awarded.
