PAC-03-A-257-S 02 DEC 03 (SAR) KENAI CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT and aircraft reports of an ELT in the Soldotna area. Kenai (ENA) CAP was tasked and responded with a ground search team, which located the non-distress ELT in a hangared aircraft at Mackey Lakes and secured it. The ENA CAP ground team searched for 4.0 hours and claimed $20.00 for fuel expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-03-A-258-S 03 DEC 03 (SAR) 210TH RQS & ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT 35nm NW of Talkeetna. Anchorage (ANC) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, however it was unable to access the search area due to poor weather. The 210th RQS was then tasked and responded with an HH-60 helicopter. The ELT ceased as the HH-60 arrived on scene. The HH-60 searched the area and found no signs of distress. ANC CAP flew one sortie for 3.8 hours. The 210th RQS HH-60 flew one sortie for 1.5 hours. No credits awarded.
PAC-03-A-259-S 04 DEC 03 (SAR) KENAI CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Soldotna area. Kenai (ENA) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft and later a ground team. The search aircraft localized the ELT signal to the city of Soldotna. A ground team was then deployed and located the non-distress EPIRB in a commercial van, and secured it. ENA CAP flew one sortie for 1.2 hours, and their ground team searched for 1.0 hour and claimed $39.00 for expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-03-A-260-S 06 DEC 03 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in anchorage. Anchorage (ANC) CAP was tasked and responded with a ground team, which searched with negative results. The ELT subsequently ceased. The ANC CAP ground team searched for 1.5 hours, and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-03-A-261-S 06 DEC 03 (SAR) 210TH RQS / AASF-ANCHORAGE / KENAI CAP
Mission opened in response to an FAA report of an overdue aircraft with one person onboard, which departed Anchorage (ANC) but failed to return. The 210th RQS, AASF-ANC, and Kenai CAP were tasked and began an extensive search of the area, along with several civilian volunteers. The ANC police department subsequently received a 911 call indicating a good samaritan had located the downed pilot at mile four of the Eklutna Lake trail. The pilot had spent the night in a small shelter, after his aircraft broke through the ice on Eklutna Lake. Chugach state park rangers responded and transferred the survivor to the Eklutna Ranger Station, where he was picked up and transported by the 210th RQS HH-60 to Providence Hospital, suffering from mild hypothermia. The 210th RQS HH-60 flew three sorties for 4.5 hours, the AASF-ANC UH-60L flew one sortie for 1.0 hour, and Kenai CAP flew three sorties for 12.5 hours. One save awarded to all units.
PAC-03-A-264-S 19 DEC 03 (SAR) KENAI CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Soldotna area. Kenai (ENA) CAP was tasked and responded with a ground search team, which located and silenced the non-distress EPIRB in “Hutchings Chevrolet`s” garage. The ENA CAP ground team searched for 1.0 hours claiming $20.00 for expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-03-A-266-S 26 DEC 03 (SAR) NOME CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT and FAA reports of an ELT in the Nome area. Nome CAP was tasked and responded with a ground team, which located the non-distress ELT in a hangared PA-18 at Nome. Nome police department gained access to the hangar and secured the ELT. The Nome CAP ground team searched for 1.0 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.
