Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Palmer area. Kenai (ENA) CAP had an aircraft airborne on a training flight, which was tasked to search, however they were unable to pick up any ELT signals nor did they see any signs of distress. The ELT ceased and the mission was closed. ENA CAP flew one sortie for 2.6 hours. No credits awarded.
PAC-03-A-177-S 03 AUG 03 (SAR) VALDEZ CAP & USCG D17
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT 55 miles north of Cordova. Valdez (VDZ) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located two distressed hikers. USCG D17 was then tasked and responded with an HH-60J helicopter from Cordova, which recovered the hikers and turned them over to Valdez EMS. VDZ CAP flew one sortie for 2.4 hours and the USCG D17 HH-60J flew three sorties for 3.0 hours. One save and one assist awarded.
PAC-03-A-179-S 05 AUG 03 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Willow. Birchwood (BCV) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, however the ELT ceased while the search acft was en route. No signs of distress were found and the mission was closed. BCV CAP flew one sortie for 0.6 hours. No credits awarded.

Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Birchwood. Birchwood (BCV) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located the non-distress ELT at Birchwood Airfield. The ELT was secured and the CAP aircraft returned to base. BCV CAP flew one sortie for 1.3 hours. No credits awarded.
PAC-03-A-181-S 06 AUG 03 (SAR) BETHEL CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Togiak area. Bethel (BET) CAP was tasked and intended to respond with a search aircraft, but had to wait out marginal weather. While waiting, BETt CAP made contact with the Togiak Village Public Safety Officer, who located and silenced the non-distress ELT on a civilian aircraft parked on the airfield. BET CAP flew no sorties or hours. No credits awarded.
PAC-03-A-182-S 07 AUG 03 (SAR) SEWARD CAP & 210TH RQS
Mission opened in response to faa reports of an overdue aircraft traveling from Lake Hood to Cordova and back. Seward (SWD) CAP was tasked and responded with several search aircraft and located the overdue aircraft inverted in the water off Montague Island, with the pilot waiting on the beach. The 210th RQS was then tasked and responded with an HH-60 helicopter, which recovered the pilot and took him to SWD. SWD CAP flew three sorties 8.0 hours, and the 210th RQS HH-60 flew one sortie for 2.0 hours. One save awarded.
PAC-03-A-184-S 09 AUG 03 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in Anchorage (ANC). ANC CAP was tasked and responded with ground search teams, and a search aircraft. The non-distress ELT was located in an Anchorage residence and was secured. ANC CAP flew one sortie for 2.2 hours and their ground teams searched for 3.2 hours, claiming no expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-03-A-185-S 10 AUG 03 (SAR) EIELSON CAP
Mission opened in response to multiple SARSAT reports of an ELT near Blair Lake Air Force Range. Eielson (EIL) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft. The ELT ceased after the search aircraft over flew an airstrip near the Salcha Lodge on the Richardson Highway, and no signs of distress were found. EIL CAP flew one sortie for 1.0 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-187-S 11 AUG 03 (SAR) BETHEL CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Nome area. RCC was unable to contact Nome CAP but there were members of the Bethel (BET) CAP in nome. BET CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located and silenced the non-distress ELT in an aircraft being packaged for shipping on a barge. BET CAP flew three sorties for 6.1 hours. No credits awarded.
PAC-03-A-189-S 12 AUG 03 (SAR) EIELSON CAP, 210TH RQS, 68TH MEDCO
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT 60 miles n.w. of Fort Yukon. A 210th RQS HC-130 and an Eielson (EIL) CAP search aircraft were both tasked and responded, however weather in the area precluded them from locating the source of the ELT. The 68th MEDCO was subsequently tasked and responded with a UH-60 helicopter, which recovered two distressed sheep hunters. The sheep hunters had activated their ELT when a wind storm flipped over their aircraft, while it was on the ground. The hunters were released to the AK State Troopers in Fairbanks, and the ELT was secured. The 210th RQS HC-130 flew one sortie for 5.4 hours, EIL CAP flew one sortie for 3.3 hours, and the 68th MEDCO UH-60 flew two sorties for 3.0 hours. Two saves awarded.
PAC-03-A-190-A 12 AUG 03 (ASSIST) KODIAK CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from Juneau RCC (USCG D17) to search for an ELT in Kodiak (ADQ). ADQ CAP was tasked and responded with a ground team, which located the non-distress ELT in the Kodiak landfill. The ground team was able to track the ELT to a pile of banded trash, but they were unable to access it. The ground team searched for 2.0 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-03-A-192-S 14 AUG 03 (SAR) EIELSON CAP & 210TH RQS
Mission opened due to SARSAT reports of an ELT located south of Big Delta. Eielson (EIL) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located a crashed aircraft with two ambulatory occupants. The 210th RQS Det-1 was then tasked and they responded with an HH-60 helicopter. The HH-60 aircrew recovered the passenger and released him to the AK State Troopers in Delta Junction. The pilot elected to stay with his aircraft, while the passenger arranged for his recovery. The crash occurred while the two were sheep hunting in the area. EIL CAP flew one sortie for 3.4 hours, and the 210th RQS HH-60 flew one sortie for 1.7 hours. One save and one assist awarded.

Mission opened in response to SARSAT and aircraft reports of an ELT near Fairbanks. Eielson (EIL) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft and a ground team, which located the non-distress ELT in a moored floatplane near Ft Wainwright. The floatplane`s owner was contacted, who then secured the errant ELT. EIL CAP flew one sortie for 1.0 hours, and their ground team searched for 1.3 hours claiming $12.26 for expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-03-A-195-S 17 AUG 03 (SAR) ELMENDORF CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT south of Palmer. Elmendorf (EDF) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which localized the non-distress ELT to a group of floatplanes moored on Mirror Lake. EDF CAP then dispatched a ground team to narrow down the ELT to an individual aircraft, however the ELT signal ceased before they arrived on-scene. EDF CAP flew one sortie for 1.8 hours, and their ground team searched for 1.0 hours claiming no expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-03-A-196-A 18 AUG 03 (ASSIST) JUNEAU CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from Juneau (JNU) RCC (USCG D17) to locate an overdue aircraft with two persons onboard. The aircraft was on a VFR flight from Port Hardy, BC. to Ketchikan, AK. JNU CAP was tasked and responded with two search aircraft, which flew multiple sorties over the preceeding days. No sign of the missing aircraft or passengers were found. The mission was suspended by JNU RCC and JNU CAP was released. JNU CAP flew six sorties for 38.2 hours. Two missing awarded.
PAC-03-A-197-S 19 AUG 03 (SAR) FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT south of Eielson AFB. Fairbanks (FAI) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft. The CAP aircrew localized the non-distress ELT to a parked aircraft at a private airstrip near Harding Lake, and made several low passes over the airstrip. A person was observed getting into the parked aircraft, and shortly thereafter the ELT ceased. FAI CAP flew one sortie for 1.3 hours. No credits awarded.

PAC-03-A-202-S 24 AUG 03 (SAR) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT located 60 miles N.E. of Kotzebue (OTZ). OTZ CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which located a downed homebuilt aircraft. There were two uninjured survivors, who had actually crashed on 22 august, but elected to wait and manually activate their ELT on the 24th. The OTZ CAP aircrew arranged for a local air charter to pick up the survivors, and the downed pilot secured his ELT. OTZ CAP flew one sortie for 1.4 hours. Two assists awarded.
PAC-03-A-204-A 25 AUG 03 (ASSIST) ELMENDORF CAP & 210TH RQS
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from the AK State Troopers (AST) to search for a distressed vehicle at the confluence of the Big Susitna and Yentna Rivers. AST planned on sending their helicopter to investigate, however it was unflyable due to maintenance issues. An Elmendorf (EDF) CAP aircraft on a training mission was tasked and diverted to search. They located a single individual on a stranded ATV and dropped a message streamer with negative response. The 210th RQS was then tasked and responded with an HH-60 helicopter. An uninjured paraplegic man was recovered and transported to palmer, where he was released to AST. The man was hunting and his ATV became stuck. EDF CAP flew one sortie for 3.4 hours and the 210th RQS HH-60 flew one sortie for 0.6 hours. One save awarded.
PAC-03-A-206-A 26 AUG 03 (ASSIST) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from the AK State Troopers (AST), to search for two overdue hunters near Eureka. Birchwood (BCV) CAP was tasked and responded with two search aircraft. An AST aircraft located and recovered the overdue hunters in good condition. The two hunters were stranded after one of their ATV’s was damaged, and their remaining fuel supply became contaminated during a water crossing. The hunters elected to stay put and wait for rescue. BCV CAP flew two sorties for 11.3 hours. Two saves awarded.

Mission opened in response to SARSAT and USAF radar site reports of an ELT located near Livengood. Eielson (EIL) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, however the ELT signal ceased while the CAP aircraft was en route to search. The CAP aircraft detected no ELT signals, and no signs of distress were located. EIL CAP flew one sortie for 2.1 hours. No credits awarded.

Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT 30 miles east of Eielson AFB (EIL). Eil CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft. The EIL CAP aircrew determined that the signal was not being produced by an ELT, but rather a malfunctioning piece of equipment at a threat emmisions site in the restricted area. EIL contractors responded and secured the equipment. EIL CAP flew one sortie for 1.6 hours. No credits awarded.
