PAC-03-A-061-A 29 MAR 03 (ASSIST) JUNEAU CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from the Alaska State Troopers (AST) to search for an overdue person from Tenakee. Juneau (JNU) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which transported search dogs and the AST Crime Lab Unit to Tenakee, and searched several areas. No signs of the overdue were found and AST released JNU CAP from the mission. JNU CAP flew six sorties for 9.9 hours. No credits awarded.
PAC-03-A-062-S 01 APR 03 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from the Girdwood Fire Dept Chief to search for an ELT signal he heard in the Girdwood area. Birchwood (BCV) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft. The BCV CAP aircraft searched Girdwood and surrounding area extensively, but was unable to pick up any ELT signals, nor did they see any signs of distress. BCV CAP flew one sortie for 1.7 hours. No credits awarded.
PAC-03-A-063-S 02 APR 03 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP & ELMENDORF CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Big Lake area. Elmendorf (EDF) CAP and Birchwood (BCV) CAP were both tasked and responded with a search aircraft and two ground teams respectively. The non-distress ELT was tracked down to a cabin near Big Lake, and was silenced by the owner. EDF CAP flew one sortie for 2.7 hours and the BCV CAP ground teams searched for 3.8 hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-03-A-064-A 02 APR 03 (ASSIST) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from the AK State Troopers (AST) in Kotzebue (OTZ) to search for an overdue snowmachiner. OTZ CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft. Shortly after the CAP aircraft departed, the overdue snowmachiner self-recovered to Kiana in good condition, and AST released them from the mission. OTZ CAP flew one sortie for 0.8 hours. 1 located awarded.
PAC-03-A-066-S 05 APR 03 (SAR) ANCHORAGE CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT located in the Anchorage area. Anchorage CAP was tasked and responded with a ground team, which located the non-distress ELT in a locked vehicle at Merrill Field. The CAP ground team left a note for the owner to deactivate the errant ELT, which subsequently ceased transmitting. The Anchorage CAP ground team searched for 3.5 hours and claimed $15.16 for expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-03-A-067-A 05 APR 03 (ASSIST) JUNEAU CAP
Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from the AK State Troopers (AST) in Juneau (JNU) to transport CISD (Critical Incident Stress Debriefing) team to Tenakee Springs in support of an overdue person from mission 2003-0061. Juneau CAP responded with a floatplane and completed the support flight. JNU CAP flew two sorties for 2.5 hrs. No credits awarded.

Mission opened in response to an FAA report of an overdue (o/d) aircraft traveling from Merrill Field to Watana Lake and then back to Merrill Field, but failed to arrive. Birchwood (BCV) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which conducted a search of the route with negative results. The o/d aircraft was later located non-distress at Merrill Field by FAA personnel. BCV CAP flew one sortie for 2.7 hours. No credits awarded.

Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from USCG D17 to locate an ELT in Kodiak. Kodiak CAP was tasked and responded with a ground team, which searched the area with negative results. The ELT signal ceased and Kodiak CAP was released from the mission. The Kodiak CAP ground team searched for two hours and claimed no expenses. No credits awarded.
PAC-03-A-072-S 07 APR 03 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT near Big Lake. Birchwood (BCV) CAP was tasked and diverted a search aircraft, which was returning from a previous mission. The aircrew located the non-distress ELT at the Willow airport in a parked aircraft. The ELT was secured followed by three SARSAT missed passes. BCV CAP flew one sortie for 0.4 hours. No credits awarded.

Mission opened in response to SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Anchorage area. Anchorage (ANC) CAP was tasked and responded with two ground teams, which located the non-distress ELT in a moored floatplane at Lake Hood. The owner secured the ELT and three SARSAT missed passes were received. The ANC CAP ground teams searched for 1.2 hours and claimed $5.00 for expenses. No credits awarded.

Mission opened in response to an faa report of a distressed aircraft 10 nm s.e. of Kotzebue. Kotzebue (OTZ) CAP and OTZ Fish and Wildlife Protection (F&WP) were both tasked and each responded with a search aircraft. The crashed aircraft was located and the uninjured pilot was taken to OTZ and released. OTZ CAP flew one sortie for 1.0 hrs and OTZ F&WP flew one sortie for 0.5 hrs. One assist awarded.
PAC-03-A-080-S 17 APR 03 (SAR) ELMENDORF CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report from an AASF-Anchorage UH-60L helicopter and an Elmendorf (EDF) CAP aircraft on a training flight near Birchwood. The EDF CAP aircraft was tasked and diverted to search for the ELT, which was located non-distress in a parked aircraft at the Birchwood airport. The CAP aircrew secured the ELT. EDF CAP flew one sortie for 0.7 hrs. No credits awarded.

Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from the AK State Troopers (AST) in Juneau, to search for two overdue hikers in the Petersburg area. Juneau (JNU) CAP was tasked and responded with two search aircraft, which extensively searched the assigned area with negative results. JNU AST suspended fixed-wing aerial search efforts, and released JNU CAP from the mission. JNU CAP flew four sorties for 5.4 hours. No credits awarded.

Mission opened in response to a request for assistance from the AK State Troopers (AST) to transport AST and AK Mountain Rescue Group (AMRG) personnel to Petersburg, to assist in finding two mountain climbers on Devil’s Thumb, near the Canadian border. Juneau (JNU) CAP was tasked and responded with a search aircraft, which transported the AST and AMRG personnel as planned. JNU AST suspended the mission due to weather and released JNU CAP from the search. JNU CAP flew two sorties for 4.3 hrs. No credits awarded.

Mission opened in response to SARSAT and aircraft reports of an ELT near Willow. Elmendorf CAP was tasked and diverted a search aircraft from a training flight. The ELT ceased and the CAP aircraft subsequently searched for a reported distressed aircraft near mile nine of the Knik Goose Bay Rd. The CAP aircraft terminated search efforts after no signs of distress were located. EDF CAP flew one sortie for 1.0 hours. No credits awarded.
