11 RCC Mission Summary

99-015 01 February 99 (AST Assist) Homer CAP
Mission opened in response to a request from the Alaska State Troopers. A private citizen reported a flare sighting northeast of Homer. The Homer CAP launched a search aircraft. The area was thoroughly searched but no signs of distress were found. The Homer CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.7 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

99-016 03 February 99 (Search) Fairbanks CAP/Eielson CAP
Mission opened in response to a composite ELT report in the Fairbanks area. Both the Fairbanks and Eielson CAP units launched ground teams. The Eielson CAP heard the ELT until they reached a populated area. Shortly thereafter the ELT ceased and three missed passes were received. The Fairbanks CAP ground team searched for 2.0 hours and the Eielson CAP ground teams searched for a total of 6.0 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

99-017 05 February 99 (Search) Kenai CAP
Mission opened in response to a compostie ELT report at the West end of Skilak Lake near Soldotna. The Kenai CAP were preparing to launch a ground team when the ELT ceased and three missed passes were received. No saves or assists were awarded.

99-019 06 February 99 (AST Assist) Kotzebue CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to search for an overdue snowmobiler in the Selawick area. The Kotzebue CAP launched a search aircraft. The aircraft located the overdue and directed the snowmobile serch party to the overdue. The Kotzebue CAP flew 1 sortie for 3.8 hours. One save was awarded.

99-020 07 February 99 (Search) Anchorage CAP
Mission opened in response to a compostie ELT report in the Anchorage Bowl area. The Anchorage CAP launched a search aircraft. The crew was unable to pinpoint the location but did indicate that it may be coming from Fort Richardson. A ground team was sent out but during the search the ELT ceased and three missed passes were received. The Anchorage CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.3 hours and the ground team searched for 2.0 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

99-021 09 February 99 (AST Assist) Anchorage CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to search for an overdue male in Anchorage. The Anchorage CAP accepted the mission but the overdue was located by Anchorage Police Department, non-distress, prior to their departure. No saves or assists were awarded.

99-022 09 February 99 (Search) Eielson CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Fairbanks area. The Eielson CAP launched a search aircraft. They searched Fairbanks and the surrounding area but did not pick up a signal or see any signs of distress. The ELT ceased and three missed passes were received. The Eielson CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.2 hour. No saves or assists were awarded.

99-023 10 February 99 (Search) Eielson CAP
Mission opened in response to a composite ELT report in the Delta Junction area. The Eielson CAP were preparing to launch a ground team when it was discovered that the Alyeska Corp was training with an ELT in the area. It was conlcuded that the offending ELT was one and the same. The ELT ceased and three missed passes were received. No saves or assists were awarded.

99-027 18 February 99 (Search) Elmendorf CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report from CAPFLT 5048. During a training flight they picked up an ELT in the Palmer area and localized it to Anderson Lake Strip. The ELT was in an aircraft parked in a hangar, non-distress. The ELT was silenced and three missed passes were received. The Elmendorf CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.4 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

99-028 18 February 99 (Search) Anchorage CAP
Mission opened in response to a composite SARSAT and aircraft reports of an ELT in the Anchorage area. The Anchorage CAP launched a ground team but Merrill Field maintenance personnel located the ELT first. The ELT was in an aircraft parked at Merrill Field, non-distress. The ELT was silenced and three missed passes were received. The Anchorage CAP ground team searched for 1.7 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

99-030 21 February 99 (Search) Eielson CAP
Mission opened in response to composite ELT reports in the Fairbanks area. The Eielson CAP launched an aircraft and ground team to search. The ELT was located n an aircraft parked, non-distress, at Chena Marina and silenced. Three missed passes were received. The Eielson CAP flew 1 sortie for 0.8 hours and the ground team searched for 3.1 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

99-033 28 February 99 (AST Assist) Homer CAP
Mission opened in response to a request from the Alaska State Troopers to search for a pair of overdue snowmobilers. The Homer CAP launched a search aircraft. The search was called off after AST reported that the individuals had self-recovered and further assistance was not required. The Homer CAP flew 1 sortie for 3.8 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.
