99-0362 05 Dec 99 (SEARCH) AK Wing CAP / Anchorage CAP
Mission opened in response to composite SARSAT report of an ELT signal in Anchorage. The Anchorage and AK Wing CAP units were tasked and responded with ground teams to search. The ELT was located, non-distress, lying on the ice on Lake Hood and silenced. The beacon was a Class B EPIRB. Three missed passes were received. The CAP searched for a total of 9.5 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.
99-0364 08 Dec 99 (SEARCH) Fairbanks CAP
Mission opened in response to composite SARSAT report of an ELT signal in Fairbanks. The Fairbanks CAP was tasked and responded with a ground team to search. The ELT was located, non-distress, in an aircraft parked in a hangar at the Fairbanks Airport and silenced. Three missed passes were received. The Fairbanks CAP searched for 0.5 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.
99-0365 09 Dec 99 (SEARCH) Bethel CAP / AASF-Bethel / 210th RQS
Mission opened in response to an ALNOT issued by the Kenai FSS for an overdue aircraft that departed Bethel but did not reach its destination, Nightmute. Grant Aviation owned the overdue aircraft. The 210th RQS, Bethel CAP and AASF-Bethel all responded to our request for aerial search support. The overdue aircraft was located 60 miles west of Bethel by a Grant Aviation aircraft. The AASF-Bethel flew to the crash site and found no survivors. No ELT was picked up by the SARSAT. The 210th RQS flew 2 sorties for 12.7 hours. The AASF-Bethel flew 5 sorties for 7.7 hours. The Bethel CAP flew 3 sorties for 3.7 hours. No saves or assists were awarded; 6 deceased.
99-0368 11 Dec 99 (AST ASSIST) Kotzebue CAP
Mission opened in response to a request from the Alaska State Troopers to assist in the search for an overdue snowmobiler traveling from Point Hope to Noatak. The Kotzebue CAP tasked and launched an aircraft to search. The o/d snowmobiler was located at a shelter cabin halfway between Kivalina and Noatak. The o/d was having difficulty due to the shallow snow cover. The Kotzebue CAP directed the ground search teams to the o/d’s location and they assisted him to Kivalina. The Kotzebue CAP flew 2 sorties for 3.0 hours. 1 Assist was awarded.
99-0369 14 Dec 99 (CSG ASSIST) Kotzebue CAP
Mission opened in response to a request from the U.S. Coast Guard to assist in the investigation of a strobe light spotted in the Kotzebue Sound. The Kotzebue CAP was tasked and launched a search aircraft to search. No signs of a strobe light or signs of distress located. The Kotzebue CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.4 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.
99-0371 23 Dec 99 (AST ASSIST) AASF-Juneau / Juneau CAP
Mission opened in response to a request from the Alaska State Troopers to assist in the search for an overdue hunter in the White Stone Harbor area. The AASF-Juneau and Juneau CAP was tasked and launched aircraft to search. No signs of the overdue hunter were found and search efforts were suspended. AST no longer required our assistance. The AASF-Juneau flew 1 sortie for 4.0 hours and the Juneau CAP flew 7 sorties for 8.3 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.
99-0372 24 Dec 99 (SEARCH) 210th RQS / Anchorage CAP
Mission opened in response to composite SARSAT report of an ELT signal near Beluga Mountain. The 210th RQS was tasked and responded with a helo to search. They determined that the signal was coming from an aircraft that had crashed on 9 Dec 99 and was non-distress at this time but they could not locate the ELT. The Anchorage CAP was then tasked and responded with an aircraft to continue the search. They also could not locate the ELT. The owner was contacted several times, the signal finally terminated and three missed passes wee received. The 210th RQS flew 1 sortie for 3.0 hours and the Anchorage CAP flew 1 sortie for 0.5 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

Mission opened in response to composite SARAT report of an ELT signal in the Soldotna area. The Kenai CAP was tasked and responded with a ground team to search. The ELT was located, non-distress, in an aircraft parked at Mackey Lake and silenced. Three missed passes were received. The Kenai CAP searched for 2.0 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

The ELT was located, non-distress, in a house. A note was left for the owner. The ELT ceased and three missed passes were received. The Fairbanks CAP searched for 6.3 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.
