99-0060 04 April 99 (Search) Fairbanks CAP
Mission opened in response to a composite SARSAT report of an ELT in the Fairbanks area. The Fairbanks CAP was tasked to search. The Fairbanks CAP launched an aircraft which localized the ELT and a ground team was then dispatched. The ELT was located in an aircraft, non-distress, at Laclaoy Airfield. RCC received three missed passes. The Fairbanks CAP flew 1 sortie for 0.9 hours and the ground team searched for 1.0 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

99-0062 04 April 99 (Search) Polaris CAP
Mission opened in response to aircraft and composite SARSAT reports of an ELT in the Anchorage area. The Polaris CAP was tasked and launched a ground team to search. The ELT was located, non-distress, in a parked aircraft at Lake Hood and silenced. Three missed passes were received. The Polaris CAP searched for 1.0 hours. N o saves or assists were awarded.

99-0063 05 April 99 (Search) Birchwood CAP
Mission opened in response to a composite SARSAT report near Palmer. The Birchwood CAP was tasked and launched a ground team to search. The ELT was located, non-distress, in an aircraft parked near Anderson Lake Strip and silenced. Three missed passes were received. The Birchwood CAP searched for 1.0 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

99-0064 09 April 99 (Search) Kotzebue CAP
Mission opened in response to a composite SARSAT report in the Galena area. The Kotzebue CAP was tasked and launched a search aircraft. At the coordinates, they saw an aircraft parked on the river near the village of Nulato. They overflew the aircraft and it appeared to be non-distress. Shortly thereafter, the ELT ceased and three missed passes were received. The Kotzebue CAP flew 2 sorties for 3.3 hours. No saves or assists were awarded

99-0065 09 April 99 (Search) Homer CAP
Mission opened in response to a composite SARSAT report in Homer. The Homer CAP unit and the Harbormaster launched ground teams to search. The EPIRB was located on a boat, non-distress, in the harbor and silenced. Three missed passes were received. The Homer CAP searched for 0.5 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

99-0066 13 April 99 (Search) Bethel CAP
Mission opened in response to a request from the Alaska State Troopers to search for an overdue snowmobiler. The Bethel CAP was preparing to launch a search aircraft when they received a phone call from the AST notifying them that the overdue had been located. Therefore, the Bethel CAP did not fly any hours or sorties. No saves or assists were awarded.

99-0067 14 April 99 (CG Assist) Kenai CAP / 210th RQS
Mission opened in response to a request from the Coast Guard RCC in Juneau to assist in a search for the cause of a composite SARSAT plotting near Kenai. The Kenai CAP was tasked to assist with the search but was unable to launch due to weather. A 210th RQS HC-130 was diverted from a training mission and proceeded to the search area where a Coast Guard helo was already on scene. An aircraft crash was located. The helo recovered the survivor and transported him to Kulis ANGB where an ambulance was waiting to transport him to Providence Hospital. The 210th RQS flew 1 sortie for 1.9 hours. One save was awarded.

99-0068 15 April 99 (Search) Kotzebue CAP
Mission opened in response to a call from Kotzebue FSS concerning a MAYDAY call made in the blind. Multiple ELT reports came in shortly thereafter. Kotzebue CAP was tasked with the search and launched a search aircraft. When they arrived on scene, there was a ground team already there so they returned to the hanger. The AST arrived onscene and determined the pilot was DOA. The ELT ceased and three missed passes were received. The Kotzebue CAP flew 1 sortie for 0.8 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

99-0069 15 April 99 (Search) Kenai CAP
Mission opened in response to a composite SARSAT report of an ELT north of Kenai. The Kenai CAP was tasked and deployed a ground team to search. They searched the area extensively but did not pick up a signal nor see any signs of distress. The ELT ceased and three missed passes were received. The Kenai CAP ground team searched for 2.25 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

Mission opened in response to a request from the Coast Guard RCC in Juneau to assist in the serach for the cause of a composite SARSAT plotting near Montague Island. The Seward CAP was tasked and launched a search aircraft. They searched the area but did not pick up a signal or see any signs of distress. The ELT ceased and three missed passes were received. The Kenai CAP flew 1 sortie for 2.3 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

99-0072 17 April 99 (AST Assist) Polaris CAP
Mission opened in response to a request from the Alaska State Troopers to assist in a search for a snowmobiler caught in an avalanche near Cantwell. The Polaris and Birchwood CAP units were tasked to search. The Polaris CAP launched a search aircraft. The AST located the snowmobiler, deceased, and the CAP aircraft returned to the hanger. The Birchwood CAP did not launch and the Polaris CAP flew 1 sortie for 2.3 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

99-0073 18 April 99 (Search) Seward CAP
Mission opened in response to a composite SARSAT and aircraft reports of an ELT in the Seward area. The Seward CAP was tasked and launched a ground team to search. They were able to localize the signal to several vessels near the dry dock but were unable to determine which vessel the beacon was coming from. There were no signs of distress in the area. The ELT ceased and three missed passes were received. The Seward CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.2 hours and the ground team searched for 1.2 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

Mission opened in response to composite SARSAT reports in the Seward area. The Seward CAP unit was tasked and launched both an aircraft and a ground team to search. The EPIRB was located, non-distress, on a boat at the Seward Marine Industrial Center and silenced. Three missed passes were received. The Seward CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.2 hours and the ground team searched for 1.2 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

Mission opened in response to a composite SARSAT report in the Anchorage area. The Polaris CAP was tasked and launched a ground team to search. The ELT was located, non-distress, in a parked aircraft at Lake Hood and silenced. Three missed passes were received. The Polaris CAP ground team searched for 1.0 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

99-0076 19 April 99 (Recovery) Bethel CAP
Mission opened in response to a distress call received by the Bethel Control Tower. The aircraft was unable to take off from a lake approximately 40 miles west of Bethel due to snow/ice conditions. The Bethel CAP was tasked an launched an aircraft on skis to assist. At the lake, they recovered the pilot and his two passengers. All three were flown back to Bethel and the mission terminated. The Bethel CAP flw 2 sorties for 1.3 hours. 3 Saves were awarded.

99-0077 19 April 99 (Search) Fairbanks CAP
Mission opened in response to a composite SARSAT report near Fairbanks. The Fairbanks CAP was tasked and launched a search aircraft. They did not pick up any signal or see any signs of distress near the coordinates. After a thorough search of the area, they returned to the hanger with negative results. The ELT ceased and three missed passes were received. The Fairbanks CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.0 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

99-0079 20 April 99 (AST Assist) Kotzebue CAP
Mission opened in response to a request from the Alaska State Troopers to assist in the search for an overdue snowmobiler. The Kotzebue CAP was tasked and launched a search aircraft. Kotzebue CAP located the overdue’s snowmobile and circled the area waiting for the ground team to arrive when he spotted the overdue snowmobile about 5 miles away. The Kotzebue CAP flew 3 sorties for 4.2 hours. One save was awarded.

Mission opened in response to a composite SARSAT report in the North Pole area. The Eielson CAP was tasked and launched a ground team to search. The ELT was located, non-distress, in a parked aircraft at the Bradley Sky Ranch and silenced. Three missed passes were received. The Eielson CAP ground team searched for 2.0 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

The ELT was located, non-distress, in a parked aircraft at the international airport and silenced. Three missed passes were received. The Polaris CAP ground team searched for 1.0 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

99-0084 25 April 9 (CG Assist) Bethel CAP
Mission opened in response to a request from the Coast Guard RCC in Juneau to assist in a search for the cause of a composite SARSAT plotting at Cape Newenham. A CG HC-130 was diverted and CAP launched several aircraft to the search area. They searched the area but were unable to pinpoint the source of the signal. They also saw no signs of distress. They said that the signal did not sound like an ELT. FAA maintenance has been advised and they are looking into the problem. The ELT ceased and three missed passes were received. The Bethel CAP flew a total of 2 sorties for 6.5 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

99-0086 29 April 99 (AST Assist) Kotzebue CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to assist in a search for an overdue snowmobiler traveling from Kotzebue to Riley Channel. The Bethel CAP was tasked and launched a search aircraft. The overdue snowmobiler walked into a hunting camp and was found there by one of the ground teams. They transported him to Noorvik for medical attention. The Kotzebue CAP verified there was no need for a medevac and returned to Kotzebue. Kotzebue CAP flew 2 sorties for 2.4 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.
