Mission opened in response to an ALNOT received from the Fairbanks FSS. The over due was traveling from Lakloey to Colleen River. The Eielson CAP launched on this mission and flew the route the overdue was flying. The overdue was located non-distress by a friend. The Eielson CAP flew 6 sorties for 14.9 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to assist in the search of a distressed vessel. A 12ft. boat was said to be drifting I Turnagain Arm. The Polaris CAP launched a DHC-2 float plane to search. There was no sighting of the distressed vessel and the mission was closed. The Polaris CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.3 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.
98-0301 06 September 98 (Search) Eielson CAP
Mission opened in response to an ALNOT received from the Fairbanks FSS. The overdue was traveling from Fairbanks to Mooseheart Lake. The Eielson CAP launched on this mission, but the overdue arrived non-distress in Fairbanks. The Eielson CAP flew 1 sortie for 3.1 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.
98-0302 07 September 98 (Search) Fairbanks CAP/68th Med Det
Mission opened in response to a composite ELT report plotting 120 miles Northwest of Fairbanks. The Fairbanks CAP responded and narrowed down the search area to several cabins, but after flying over no one signaled for help and the CAP was unable to land. The 68th Med Det responded with a helo and they landed in the area. They discovered a 60 year old male in one of the cabins with many lacerations and other wounds from a fall while working on his cabin. The patient was transported to the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. The Fairbanks CAP flew 1 sortie for 2.6 hours and the Med Det flew 2 sorties for 3.6 hours. One save was awarded.
98-0303 08 September 98 (Search) Seward-Polaris-Arcturus-Birchwood-Kenai CAP/210th RQS
Mission opened in response to an overdue aircraft near Lake Clark. Several CAP units and the 210th RQS responded to the search. After 2 days of searching, a call was received from a private pilot whom located the overdue aircraft crashed in Bonanza Hills, uninjured. The private pilot was unable to describe the location of the crash site and went back out to pick up the downed pilot. The overdue was transported to Port Alsworth. The CAP flew a total of 21 sorties for 71.7 hours and the 210th RQS flew 1 sortie for 5.2 hours. One save was awarded.
98-0304 08 September 98 (Search) Seward CAP/Polaris CAP
Mission opened in response to an ALNOT received from the FAA. The overdue was traveling from Lake Hood to Seward and then back to Lake Hood. The Seward CAP and the Polaris CAP searched on this mission, but the overdue made contact with Kenai FSS. The overdue was on the ground at Longmare waiting out weather. The Seward Cap flew 1 sortie for 2.5 hours and the Polaris CAP conducted a ground search, the y searched for 1 hour. No saves or assists were awarded.
98-0305 09 September 98 (AST Assist) Kotzebue CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to assist in the search of an overdue boater near Skeshalik. The Kotzebue CAP launched and located the overdue at a cabin near the mouth of the Noatak River. The overdue was not in distress, but was having engine trouble. The OTZ CAP flew 1 sortie for 2.0 hours. Seven assists were awarded.
98-0307 09 September 98 (CG Assist) Juneau CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Juneau RCC to assist in the search of an overdue boater. The overdue’s last known position was in Taku Inlet. The Juneau CAP located the overdue in Oliver’s Inlet. Their regular motor was inop. although, they were not in distress because they were using their auxiliary kicker motor. The Juneau CAP flew 2 sorties for 5.1 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

Mission opened in response to a composite ELT report North of Palmer. The Birchwood CAP launched and narrowed down the search area to a campsite in Peters Creek Valley. A person was spotted near a tent non-distress. After a couple of low passes the ELT ceased. The Birchwood CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.6 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.
98-0309 09 September 98 (CG Assist) Juneau CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Juneau RCC to assist in the recovery of an injured Boy Scout. The Juneau CAP launched and picked up the injured boy at a camp 30 miles North of Juneau and transported him to paramedics. The boy had an injured knee and was unable to walk. The Juneau CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.0 hours. One assist was awarded.

Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to assist in the search of two overdue ATV’s. The overdue’s were en route to Christochina River Lodge, but never arrived. The Gulkana CAP launched on this mission. While en route to the search area, the CAP was notified that the overdue’s self recovered back to their vehicle. They cold not make it to the lodge due to muddy trail conditions. The Gulkana CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.5 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

The Polaris CAP then responded with a ground team and they located the ELT in the ERA hangar in a helo. The Polaris CAP searched for 0.5 hours and the Birchwood CAP flew 2 sortie for 0.9 hours. Mission opened in response to a composite ELT report 45 miles North of Fairbanks. The Eielson CAP responded and located a crashed aircraft with two survivors. The 210th RQS was then tasked and they transported the two patients to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. The patients were ambulatory and were released to Fire Department personnel at the ER. Eielson CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.2 hours and the 210th RQS flew 1 sortie for 1.2 hours. Two saves were awarded.

Mission opened in response to a composite ELT report in the Kotzebue area. The Kotzebue CAP responded and narrowed the ELT signal down to the southeast side of Mt. Noak, but due to fog they were unable to see the source. In the meantime, an overdue aircraft was reported in this area. The Army National Guard. was tasked to transport a ground team to the search area. A crash site was found and verified that is was the overdue aircraft and also the source of the ELT. There was one person on board who died on impact. The Kotzebue CAP flew 4 sorties for 7.6 hours and AASF-Nome flew 5 sorties for 4.8 hours. No saves or assists were awarded.

Mission opened in response to a composite ELT report plotting 70 miles North of Nome. A USCG HC-130 diverted and localized the ELT. The Kotzebue CAP then launched and flew to the coordinates passed to them by the Coast Guard. An aircraft crash was found and the pilot was uninjured. The pilot had communication with the CAP and reported that he was not inside the aircraft when the wind blew it over and he had enough gear to spend the night. The Army National Guard in Nome launched their helo the following day and transported the pilot to Nome. The OTZ CAP flew 1 sortie for 2.6 hours, the USCG flew 1 sortie for 2.0 hours and AASF-Nome flew 1 sortie for 2.9 hours. One assist was awarded.
