PAC-98-A-0019-S 06 FEBRUARY 98 (SEARCH) NEW YORK AIR NATIONAL GUARD /POLARIS CAP/USCG
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Whittier area. After investigating, the RCC located a vessel that lost its EPIRB overboard. After 7 days of searching, the EPIRB was located and secured by a Coast Guard helo. The Polaris CAP ground team searched for 2.5 hours. The USCG flew 1 sortie for .4 hours. The NYANG flew 1 sortie for 1.0 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.
PAC-98-A-0020-S 01 FEBRUARY 98 (SEARCH) SEWARD CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Seward area. The Seward CAP searched for the ELT, but did not pick up a signal or locate the ELT. This ELT signal may have been from the previous mission. The Seward CAP searched for .7 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS wee awarded.
PAC-98-A-0022-S 03 FEBRUARY 98 (AST ASSIST) BETHEL CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to search for six overdue snowmobilers last seen traveling from Bethel to 3-Step Mountain. The overdues self-recovered non-distress. The Bethel CAP flew 1 sortie for .5 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.
PAC-98-A-0023-S 06 FEBRUARY 98 (SEARCH) FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Fairbanks area. The Fairbanks CAP ground team located the ELT in the trunk of a parked car. The ELT was secured and three missed passes were received. The Fairbanks CAP searched for 5.5 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.
PAC-98-A-0024-S 07 FEBRUARY 98 (SEARCH) POLARIS CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Birchwood area. The Polaris CAP searched for the ELT but did not pick up a signal or locate the ELT. Three missed passes were received and the mission was closed. The Polaris CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.5 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.
PAC-98-A-0025-S 07 FEBRUARY 98 (SEARCH) EIELSON CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Fairbanks area. The Eielson CAP ground team located this ELT at the Hutchinson Career Center. The ELT was secured and three missed passes were received. The Eielson CAP searched for 1.5 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.
PAC-98-A-0026-S 07 FEBRUARY 98 (AST ASSIST) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to search for an overdue hunter last seen near the upper Buckland River. The overdue hunter’s snowmachine broke down and he was located and escorted to safety. The Kotzebue CAP flew 6 sorties for 7.9 hours. ONE SAVE WAS AWARDED.
PAC-98-A-0028-S 14 FEBRUARY 98 (SEARCH) FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Fairbanks area. The Fairbanks CAP ground team located this ELT in a parked C-172 at the Fairbanks International Airport. The ELT was secured and three missed passes were received. The Fairbanks CAP searched for .3 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.
PAC -98-A-0029-S 15 FEBRUARY 98 (AST ASSIST) EIELSON CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to search for an overdue snowmobiler last seen traveling from Venetie to Arctic Village. The Eielson CAP launched, although the overdue was located by a civilian ground team and escorted to safety. The Eielson CAP flew 2 sorties for 2.4 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.
PAC-98-A-0030-S 17 FEBRUARY 98 (AST ASSIST) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to search for an overdue hiker last seen hiking from Kiana to Ambler. The Kotzebue CAP launched, although the overdue self-recovered to the village of Shungnak. The Kotzebue CAP flew 3 sorties for 4.1 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.
PAC-98-A-0032-S 22 FEBRUARY 98 (SEARCH) KOTZEBUE CAP/AST
Mission opened in response to a downed aircraft. A Pa-18 made a landing near Buckland when his engine failed and ground teams were unable to locate the pilot. The Kotzebue CAP responded and directed a ground team to the pilot. The Kotzebue CAP flew 1 sortie for 2.0 hours and AST flew 2 sorties for 2.5. 1 ASSIST AWARDED
PAC-98-A-0035-S 25 FEBRUARY 98 (AST ASSIST) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to search for an overdue snowmobiler last seen traveling for Buckland to Noorvik. The Kotzebue CAP launched although the overdue self-recovered after taking the wrong trail. The Kotzebue CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.1 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.
