MSN 063 2 Apr 98 (SEARCH) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to several ELT reports in the Wasilla area. The Birchwood CAP launched an aircraft and a ground team but were unable to locate the weak ELT. No SARSAT reports were ever received. The Birchwood CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.5 hours and the ground team searched for 1.5 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 064 4 Apr 98 (SEARCH) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to assist in a search of an overdue snowmobiler. The overdue was traveling from Kotzebue to Buckland. The overdue was found on the second day after running out of fuel. The Kotzebue CAP flew 3 sorties for 4.9 hours. 1 SAVE was awarded.

MSN 066 5 Apr 98 (AST ASSIST) GULKANA CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to assist in the search of an overdue snowmachiner. The Gulkana CAP was ready to launch when the overdue self-recovered with the assistance of other snowmachiners. The Gulkana CAP did not fly any sorties or hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 067 9 Apr 98 (SEARCH) BETHEL CAP and 210 RQS
Mission opened in response to an ALNOT from Kenai FSS. The overdue aircraft was en route from Toksook to Bethel. Due to poor weather, aircraft were limited in the ability to search. The crashed aircraft was located by a ground team from Toksook. The Bethel CAP flew 1 sortie for 0.9 hours and 210th RQS flew 1 sortie for 2.5 hours. There were 2 fatalities. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 068 10 Apr 98 (AST ASSIST) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to assist in the search of two overdue snowmachiners. The Kotzebue CAP flew from Kotzebue to Buckland. The overdues were located at Callahan’s Cabin. The Kotzebue CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.5 hours. 2 ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 069 11 Apr 98 (MIL ASSIST) FAIRBANKS CAP, EIELSON CAP and 283rd MEDCO
Mission opened in response to a request by the Air Force to assist in the search of an overdue Air Force Airman. He had been four-wheeling the country roads of Eielson. The Fairbanks CAP launched two search aircraft and the Eielson CAP dispatched one ground team. The search aircraft located the overdue approximately 30 miles from Eielson. 283rd MEDCO flew to the scene and picked up the Air Force member and 3 others. The Fairbanks CAP flew 2 sorties for 5.1 hours. Eielson CAP ground team searched for 3.4 hours and claimed $12. 283rd MEDCO flew 1 sortie for 2.4 hours. 4 SAVES were awarded.

MSN 070 11 Apr 98 (SAERCH) POLARIS CAP
Mission opened in response to a composite SARSAT message and numerous ELT reports. The ELT was located in a house near the Skyharbor Strip on an aircraft that was being repaired. The ELT was silenced. The Polaris CAP flew 1 sortie for 0.5 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 072 14 Apr 98 (SEARCH) POLARIS CAP
Mission opened in response to a composite SARSAT message. A ground team from Polaris CAP searched for the ELT at Merrill Field. Nothing was found. The Polaris CAP ground team searched for 2.0 hours and claimed no expenses. RCC received 3 missed pass reports. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 073 15 Apr 98 (SEARCH) POLARIS CAP
Mission opened in response to a composite SARSAT message. A ground team from Polaris CAP searched for the ELT in the local area. The ELT was located in a Supercub at Lake Good Strip. RCC received 3 missed pass report. Polaris CAP searched for 0.5 hours and claimed no expenses. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 074 15 Apr (SEARCH) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened in response to an ALNOT from Kotzebue FSS. The overdue aircraft’s flight plan was from Fairbanks to Noatak and Cutler Rivers, then returning to Fairbanks. Kotzebue CAP launched one search aircraft. The search aircraft was recalled after the overdue aircraft contacted Kotzebue FSS and extended his flight plan. The Kotzebue CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.5 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 076 18 Apr 98 (CGD ASSIST) NOME CAP and AAOF #1
Mission opened in response to a request by Juneau RCC to assist in the search of an overdue boat that was en route from Shaktoolik to Stuart Island. The Nome Army Guard (AAOF #1) located the boat and directed a rescue boat to that location. The overdue boat was towed to Besboro Island and beached. The boaters were transported to Shaktoolik by AAOF #1. AAOF #1 flew 1 sortie for 3.6 hours. 4 SAVES were awarded.

MSN 077 18 Apr 98 (AST ASSIST) KENAI CAP
Missino opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to assist in the search of an overdue boat. The Kenai CAP launched 2 aircraft to search the Cook Inlet area. AST was able to ascertain that the boater was non-distress. The Kenai CAP flew 3sorties for5.5 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 079 20 Apr 98 (SEARCH) KENAI CAP, AASF and 210th RQS
Mission opened in response to a composite ELT report west of Kenai. The Kenai CAP launched and located an aircraft that landed on the Big River Glacier Lake and was stuck in the slush. The Army National Guard (AASF) picked up the individuals and transported them to Providence Hospital. A 210th PJ was picked up at Kulis and flew on this mission. Kenai CAP flew 1 sortie for 4.3 hours and AASF flew 5 sorties for 2.5 hours. 2 SAVES were awarded.

MSN 081 24 Apr 98 (AST ASSIST) POLARIS CAP and 210th RQS
Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to search for an overdue hiker near Powerline Pass. Polaris CAP located the overdue individual and the 210th RQS helo landed to investigate. The individual was non-distress and continued to the Glenn Alps parking lot where he met the on-scene trooper. Polaris CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.5 hours and the 210th RQS flew 1 sortie for 0.4 hours. 1 ASSIST was awarded to both assets.

MSN 083 25 Apr 98 (SEARCH) FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to a composite SARSAT message. Fairbanks CAP launched one search aircraft and one ground team to search for the ELT. The ELT was not located. RCC received 3 missed pass reports. Fairbanks CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.1 hours. The ground team searched for 0.5 and claimed no expenses. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 085 27 Apr 98 (MEDEVAC) BETHEL CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers for CAP assistance to provide communications support for a Trooper Supercub that was providing assistance to a hypothermia victim near Hangar Lake on the Kuskokwim River. Bethel CAP was diverted while airborne on a training mission. The survivor was successfully recovered by the Supercub to Bethel Airport where he was transported by ambulance to Bethel Hospital. Bethel CAP flew 2 sorties for 2.4 hours. 1 ASSIST was awarded.

MSN 087 27 Apr 9 (CSG ASSIST) JUNEAU CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by RCC Juneau to assist in the search of an overdue boat. Juneau CAP launched a search aircraft. The overdue was located at Incursion Inlet, non-distress. Juneau CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.0 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 088 27 Apr 98 (SEARCH) BETHEL CAP
Mission opened in response to a composite SARSAT message and multiple ELT reports in the vicinity of Bethel. A ground team from Bethel CAP squadron searched for the ELT in the local area. The ELT was located on an airfield, non-distress. The ELT was silenced. RCC received 3 missed pass reports. Bethel CAP searched for 0.3 hours and claimed no expenses. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.
