MSN 261 1 Sep 97 (SAR) NOME CAP
Mission opened in response to a request from the Nome AST to search for a missing 5 year old girl in Brevig Mission. The child was missing while swimming near her home. The Nome CAP flew 3 sorties for 3.1 hours without locating the child. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 263 1 Sep 97 (SAR) GULKANA CAP and 283rd MEDCO
Mission opened in response to an ELT west of Tok. The Gulkana CAP located a crashed aircraft with 2 injured survivors on board. The 283rd MEDCO transported the survivors to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. The Gulkana CAP flew 1 sortie for 2.2 hours and the 283rd MEDCO flew 7 sorties for 6.4 hours. 2 SAVES were awarded.

MSN 264 2 Sep 97 (SAR) POLARIS CAP
Mission opened in response to a request from the Alaska State Troopers to search for an overdue hiker that was last seen being swept down Sheep Creek. The Polaris CAP searched and nothing was found. The Alaska State Troopers no longer needed our assistance and the mission was closed. Polaris CAP flew 2 sorties for 6.2 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 267 3 Sep 97 (SAR) EIELSON CAP
Mission opened in response to a report of an ELT in the Fairbanks area. The Eielson CAP located the ELT in a Maule M-4 parked on the east ramp of Fairbanks International Airport. Eielson CAP flew 2 sorties for 1.5 hours and conducted 3.0 hours of ground search time. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 268 4 Sep (SAR) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened in response to a request from the Alaska State Troopers to search for 4 overdue boaters. They were reported traveling from Kotzebue to the Lower Noatak River. The Kotzebue CAP launched to search but the boaters self-recovered and made it back to Kotzebue. The Kotzebue CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.0 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 271 4 Sep 97 (SAR) KENAI CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Sterling area. A Kenai CAP ground team located the ELT at a residence, non-distress. Kenai CAP searched for 2.5 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 272 4 Sep 97 (SAR) POLARIS CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Anchorage area. A Polaris CAP ground team located the ELT in a PA-18 on a trailer at Lake Hood. Polaris CAP ground team searched for 0.7 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 273 4 Sep 97 (SAR) BETHEL CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Bethel AST to search for an 11 year old male near Chevak. The Bethel CAP was tasked, but as the arrived on scene, the boy was located. The Bethel CAP flew 2 sorties for 2.6 hours. NO SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 274 5 Sep 97 (SAR) EIELSON CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report near the Fairbanks International Airport. An Eielson CAP aircraft narrowed the ELT down to the Chena Marina Airport. A ground team then located the ELT in a residence near the Chena Marina Airport, non-distress. Eielson CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.0 hours and the ground team searched for 5.0 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 277 9 Sep 97 (SAR) POLARIS CAP
Mission opened in response to a report of an ELT in the Anchorage area. A Polaris ground team located the ELT in a parked aircraft on the Campbell Airstrip. The Polaris CAP ground team search for 2.0 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 280 12 Sep 97 (SAR) POLARIS CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT in the Tatalina area. The ELT ceased while the Polaris CAP was en route. Polaris CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.8 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 283 13 Sep 97 (SAR) POLARIS CAP and BETHEL CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Anchorage area. Polaris CAP flew 1 sortie for 2.4 hours. The Bethel CAP located the ELT in an aircraft at Merrill Field and turned it off. The Bethel CAP ground team searched for 0.8 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

Mission opened in response to an ELT in the Anchorage area. The ELT was located in a parked aircraft at Merrill Field. Polaris CAP ground team searched for 1.0 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 285 14 Sep 97 (SAR) GULKANA CAP
Mission opened in response to a report of an overdue military member. The individual self-recovered. Gulkana CAP flew 1 sortie for 2.0 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 287 15 Sep 97 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Anchorage/Palmer area. The ELT was located on an aircraft parked at the Palmer Airport. Birchwood CAP flew 1 sortie for 0.8 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 288 15 Sep 97 (SAR) EIELSON CAP and FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to an overdue aircraft flying from Healy to Fairbanks. This aircraft was located overturned 10nm east of McKinley Park. There were no injuries and the pilot self recovered. Eielson CAP flew 2 sorites for 2.9 hours. Fairbanks CAP flew 2 sorties for 2.5 hours. One ASSIST was awarded.

MSN 289 16 Sep 97 (SAR) POLARIS CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Anchorage area. The ELT ceased with 3 missed passes. Polaris CAP ground team searched for 1.7 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 290 17 Sep 97 (SAR) POLARIS CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Anchorage area. The FAA located this ELT at Merrill Field in an Enstrom F-28 helicopter and turned it off. Polaris CAP ground team searched for 0.5 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 292 19 Sep 97 (SAR) POLARIS CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Anchorage area. The ELT was located in an aircraft parked near Lake Hood strip. The owner was contacted and he turned off the ELT. Polaris CAP ground team searched for 0.2 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 293 19 Sep 97 (SAR) BETHEL CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the State Troopers to search for 5 overdue boaters. The boaters were located a commercial pilot, non-distress. Bethel CAP did not fly this mission. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 295 21 Sep 97 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP and ARMY NATIONAL GUARD
Mission opened in response to a request by the State Troopers to search for 4 overdue hunters. The hunters were located near Knik Glacier, non-distress. Birchwood CAP flew 5 sorties for 11.1 hours and the 1/207th flew 2 sorties 3.0 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 296 21 Sep 97 (SAR) KENAI CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the State Troopers to search for an overdue hunter near Marathon Road, north of Kenai. The overdue hunter self-recovered non-distress. Kenai CAP flew 1 sortie for 0.9 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 297 22 Sep 97 (SAR) EIELSON CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Fairbanks area. The ELT was located in a PA-18 parked on Lakloey Strip which is located halfway between Fairbanks and North Pole. The Eielson CAP ground team searched for 2.5 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 300 24 Sep 97 (SAR) BETHEL CAP
Mission opened in response to numerous ELT reports in the Anchorage area. The ELT was located in a PA-18 parked at Lake Hood and turned off. The Bethel CAP ground team searched for 0.3 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 301 26 Sep 97 (SAR) JUNEAU CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Juneau RCC to use the Juneau CAP to search for an ELT in the Excursion Inlet area. The Juneau CAP searched for this ELT, but were unable to locate it due to weather. An USCG helo located the ELT in a downed aircraft with 2 people who were uninjured. The Juneau CAP flew 1 sortie for 3.3 hours. No SAVES of ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 305 28 Sep 97 (SAR) POLARIS CAP
Mission opened in response to a sighting of a crashed Supercub 11nm west of Anchorage. Polaris CAP flew to the area and obtained the tail number. The owner of the aircraft was notified and said there had been no injuries and he had contacted a charter service to recover the aircraft. The Polaris CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.2 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 306 29 Sep 97 (SAR) ARMY NATIONAL GUARD and BETHEL CAP
Mission opened in response to a report of a downed aircraft. The Bethel Army National Guard and the Bethel CAP flew to the area and searched but no sign of a downed aircraft was seen. The Bethel CAP flew 5 sorties for 7.9 hours and the Bethel Arm National Guard flew 1 sortie for 1.5 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 307 30 Sep 97 (SAR) EIELSON CAP
Mission opened in response to an ALERT NOTICE of an overdue aircraft. The Eielson CAP conducted a route search and loated the aircraft at Blair Lakes, non-distress. The Eielson CAP flew 1 sortie for 0.9 sorties. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 308 30 Sep 97 (SAR) 210th RQS and BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to numerous reports of flares in the Chugach Mountains east of Anchorage. The 210th RQS and the Birchwood CAP searched the area, but nothing was seen. The 210th RQS flew 1 sortie for 0.4 hours and the Birchwood CAP flew 1 sortie for 2.0 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 309 30 Sep 97 (SAR) POLARIS CAP
Mission opened in response to an ALERT NOTICE of an overdue aircraft. The Polaris CAP responded with a ground team, who did a ramp search at Merrill Field and located the aircraft on the field, non-distress. The Polaris CAP ground team searched for 0.3 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.
