MSN 310 2 Oct 97 (MEDVAC) WING CAP and LIFEGUARD
Mission opened in response to a Medevac request passed through Anchorage Center. The Wing CAP flew to the area of Slatna River and pinpointed the patient. The Lifeguard helo then arrived and transported a patient with GI bleeding to Providence Hospital. The Wing CAP flew 1 sortie for 3.0 hour and Lifeguard flew 2 sorties for 2.0 hours. ONE SAVE was awarded.

MSN 311 3 Oct 97 (SAR) EIELSON CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Fairbanks area. The Eielson CAP ground team conducted a search and located the ELT in a hangar on Ft. Wainwright. The Eielson CAP ground team searched for 2.5 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 313 4 Oct 97 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Willow area. The Birchwood CAP located the ELT in a Maule located at Willow Airport, non-distress. The Birchwood CAP flew 1 sortie for 0.9 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS wee awarded.

MSN 316 7 Oct 97 (SAR) SEWARD CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Seward area. The Seward CAP ground team located the ELT in a boat at the Seward boatlift, non-distress. The Seward CAP ground ream searched for 1.0 hour. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 320 10 Oct 97 (SAR) POLARIS CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT in the Anchorage area. The Polaris CAP ground team located the ELT in a C-150 parked at Lake Hood. The Polaris CAP searched for 1.4 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 322 11 Oct 97 (AST ASSIST) NOME CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to search for an overdue hiker. A 51-year-old male geologist from Norway was dropped off by a charter service on August 18th at Wrench Lake. He planned on hiking to the village or Koyukuk, approximately 75 miles, and was due into Koyukuk around September 20th. The Alaska State Troopers and the CAP searched for several days and nothing was found. The mission was closed. Although, on October 18th, the overdue hiker walked into the village of Koyukuk after experiencing several setbacks and injuries along the way. The Nome CAP flew 3 sorties for 15.3 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 323 11 Oct 97 (SAR) VALDEZ CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Valdez area. The Valdez CAP conducted 3 ground searched and 1 air search. On day 2 of the search, they located the ELT in a garbage can at a residence in Valdez. The owner of the 12 year-old ELT was cleaning out his garage and threw it away. The ELT was deactivated. The Valdez CAP flew 1 sortie for 0.5 hours and the Valdez CAP ground team searched for 9.7 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 326 14 Oct 97 (AST ASSIST) BETHEL CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to assist in the search for three overdue boaters. The Bethel CAP searched but, the AST helo located the overdues on the beach. The AST helo picked them up and transported them to Bethel. The Bethel CAP flew 1 sortie for 2.0 hours. 3 SAVES were awarded.

MSN 327 15 Oct 97 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Eagle River area. The Birchwood CAP launched an aircraft to search for this ELT. The ELT was located by a ground team, non-distress. The Birchwood CAP flew 1 sortie for 0.8 hours and the Birchwood CAP ground team searched for 1.2 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 328 19 Oct 97 (AST ASSIST) KENAI CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to assist in the search for 4 overdue hunters. Three teenagers and one adult wee located lost in the woods near Mosquito Lake. The Kenai CAP assisted them back to their vehicle. The Kenai CAP ground team searched for 3.0 hours. 4 ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 330 21 Oct 97 (SAR) FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Fairbanks area. The Fairbanks CAP sent a ground team to locate this ELT. The ELT was located in a vehicle and turned off. The Fairbanks CAP ground team searched for 3.4 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 331 24 Oct 97 (USCG ASSIST) JUNEAU CAP and SITKA CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Juneau RCC to assist in the search of an overdue aircraft. The Juneau CAP and the Sitka CAP responded to search for this aircraft. A commercial charter operator located this aircraft crashed into the side of a mountain at the 2700-ft level, 5nm south of Young Lake. There were no survivors. The Juneau CAP flew 3 sorties for 7.3 hours and the Sitka CAP flew 2 sorties for 6.9 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 332 25 Oct 97 (SAR) EIELSON CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report 23nm south of Delta Junction. The ELT ceased prior to the CAP departing. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 333 25 Oct 97 (AST ASSIST) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to assist in the search for an overdue snowmobiler. The Kotzebue CAP located the overdue next to his snowmachine passed out and transported him to safety. The Kotzebue CAP clew 4 sorties for 2.0 hours. 1 SAVE awarded.

MSN 334 27 Oct 97 (SAR) KENAI CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report 10nm south of Kenai. The Kenai CAP did not located the ELT and the RCC received three misses passes. The Kenai Cap flew 1 sortie for 1.3 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 335 27 Oct 97 (SAR) POLARIS CAP and 210th RQS
Mission opened in response to an ELT report 30nm south of Anchorage. The Polaris CAP located this ELT in a crashed aircraft and three survivors outside the aircraft. The 210th HH-60 picked up the 3 survivors and transported them to Providence Hospital. The Polaris CAP flew 1 sortie for 2.3 hours and the 210th RQS HH-60 flew 1 sortie for 1.0 hours. THREE ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 336 27 Oct 97 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report near Knik Glacier. The Birchwood CAP did not locate this ELT. The RCC received three missed passes. The Birchwood CAP flew 1 sortie for 2.5 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 337 27 Oct (SAR) POLARIS CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in Anchorage. The ELT was located in an aircraft parked at Merrill Field. The Polaris CAP ground team searched for 1.5 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 338 27 Oct 97 (SAR) FAIRBANKS CAP, EIELSON CAP and 210th RQS
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Fairbanks area. Both air and ground searched were performed with nothing found. The ELT ceased and three missed passes were received. The 210th RQS flew 1 sortie for 0.8 hours. The Fairbanks CAP flew 2 sorties for 2.0 hours. The Fairbanks CAP ground team searched for 2.0 hours. The Eielson CAP ground team searched for 8.5 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.
