MSN 039 1 Mar 97 (SAR) FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT in the Fairbanks area. Fairbanks CAP was tasked to conduct a ground search and located the ELT in an aviator’s flight bag at Ft. Wainwright. Fairbanks CAP searched for 4.0 hours and claimed no expenses. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.
MSN 040 2 Mar 97 (AST ASSIST) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened in response to an AST request to search for 2 overdue snowmobilers in the Kotzebue area. Kotzebue CAP conducted the search and while searching, the overdue snowmobilers were recovered by 2 local hunters. Kotzebue CAP flew 2 sorties for 2.3 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.
MSN 042 3 Mar 97 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT in the Birchwood area. Birchwood CAP conducted a search and located the ELT at Birchwood airport in a parked ultra-light aircraft. Birchwood CAP searched for 0.7 hours and claimed no expenses. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.
MSN 044 4 Mar 97 (AST ASSIST) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened in response to an AST request to search for three overdue snowmobilers. Kotzebue CAP was tasked to conduct the search and while searching, the overdue snowmobiles were located in Deering, non-distress. Kotzebue CAP flew 1 sortie for 2.2 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.
MSN 046 8 Mar 97 (AST ASSIST) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened in response to an AST request to search for an overdue snowmobiler. Kotzebue CAP was tasked to conduct the search and while searching, the overdue snowmobiler was recovered by a ground team. Kotzebue CAP flew 1 sortie for 2.1 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.
MSN 047 9 Mar 97 (AST ASSIST) BETHEL CAP
Mission opened in response to an AST request to search for an overdue snowmobiler. Bethel CAP was tasked to conduct the search and while searching, the CAP crew located the overdue and led a ground team to his location. Bethel CAP flew 2 sorties for 5.2 hours. ONE SAVE awarded.
MSN 048 11 Mar 97 (SAR) BIRCHWOOD CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT in the Palmer area. A Birchwood CAP ground team tracked the signal to Palmer Airport and silenced the ELT signal. Birchwood CAP searched for 5.0 hours and claimed $15 in expenses. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

Mission opened in response to an ELT in the Anchorage area. Polaris CAP conducted a ground search and located the ELT in a private home. Polaris CAP searched for 0.8 hours and claimed no expenses. No SAVES or ASSITS were awarded.
MSN 050 14 Mar 97 (SAR) POLARIS CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT in the Anchorage area. Polaris CAP conducted a ground search and located the ELT in a hangar at Lake Hood. Polaris CAP searched for 0.8 hours and claimed no expenses. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.
MSN 054 17 Mar 97 (AST ASSIST) GULKANA CAP
Mission opened in response to an AST request to investigate a strobe sighting 2 miles north of the Denali Hwy, 25 miles west of Paxson. The Gulkana CAP was tasked to respond and conducted a thorough search of the area with no signs of distress. Gulkana CAP flew 1 sortie for 2.8 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS awarded for this mission.
MSN 056 20 Mar 97 (SAR) EIELSON CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT in the Fairbanks area. Eielson CAP conducted a search and while searching, the ELT ceased. Eielson CAP searched for 3.0 hours and claimed $11.42. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.
MSN 058 22 Mar 97 (SAR) POLARIS CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT in the Anchorage area. A Polaris CAP ground team conducted a search and located the ELT I a hangar at Merrill Field. Polaris CAP searched 2.0 hours and claimed no expenses. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.
MSN 059 25 Mar 97 (AST ASSIST) AAOF #2 and BETHEL CAP
Mission opened in response to a report from Bethel AST of a downed aircraft near Nunapitchuk village. AAOF #2 and Bethel CAP were tasked to respond and after arriving on scene discovered that it was two aircraft involved in a mid-air collision. Both occupants were deceased. AAOF #2 flew 1 sortie for 1.2 hours. Bethel CAP flew 3 sorties for 2.6 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

Mission opened in response to an ELT in the Anchorage area. A Polaris CAP ground team conducted a search and located the ELT in a private residence. Polaris CAP searched 0.5 hours and claimed no expenses. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.
