MSN 361 1 Dec 97 (AST ASSIST) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to search for two overdue snowmobilers. The Kotzebue CAP located the overdues walking because their machine broke down. The Kotzebue CAP directed a ground team to the overdues and they were transported to safety, The Kotzebue CAP flew 2 sorties for 3.0 hours. 2 SAVES were awarded.

MSN 362 5 Dec 97 (SEARCH) FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to numerous ELT hits in the Fairbanks area. The Fairbanks CAP ground team located the ELT at the Fairbanks Airport. The ELT was silenced and 3 missed passes were received. The Fairbanks CAP ground team searched for 2.0 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 363 6 Dec 97 (AST ASSIST) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to search for an overdue snowmobiler. The Kotzebue CAP launched on this mission to search, but the overdue self-recovered to Kotzebue. The Kotzebue CAP flew 1 sortie for 1. hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 364 8 Dec 97 (SEARCH) KENAI CAP
Mission opened in response to numerous ELT hits in the Kenai area. The Kenai CAP ground team located an EPIRB at a residence in Kenai. The owner’s son had been playing in the garage the previous day and turned it on. The Kenai CAP ground team searched for 3.2 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 366 20 December 97 (SEARCH) KENAI CAP and ALASKA STATE TROOPERS
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Seward area. The Kenai CAP and the Alaska State Troopers searched on this mission. An aircraft was located partially submerged in the ice and 2 survivors were located at a nearby cabin, non-distress. The Alaska State Troopers transported the survivors to safety. The Kenai CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.0 hours and the Alaska State Troopers flew 1 sortie for 2.3 hours. 2 ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 367 21 Dec 97 (SEARCH) POLARIS CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Resurrection Pass area. The Polaris CAP launched on this mission, but did not hear or see any distress. Three missed passes wee received and the mission was closed. The Polaris CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.4 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 368 22 Dec 97 (SEARCH) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened I response to a possible sighting of a downed aircraft. The Kotzebue CAP searched on this mission and nothing was seen. The Alaska State Troopers notified them that what was seen was a meteorite. The Kotzebue CAP flew 2 sorties for 2.9 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 369 24 Dec 97 (SEARCH) FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Fairbanks area. The Fairbanks CAP ground team narrowed the area of the ELT down to the airport, by morning the ELT ceased and three missed passes were received. The Fairbanks CAP ground team searched for 4.0 hors. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 370 24 Dec 97 (AST ASSIST) KOTZEBUE CAP
Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to search for an overdue snowmobiler last seen traveling from Buckland to Koyuk. The overdue was located by a ground team, non-distress. The Kotzebue CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.0 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 371 24 Dec (SEARCH) POLARIS CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Anchorage area. Polaris CAP ground team located the ELT in a hangar at Lake Hood. The ELT was de-activated with the assistance of the owner. The Polaris CAP ground team searched for 4.0 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

MSN 373 29 Dec 97 (AST ASSIST) NOME CAP and AAOF #1
Mission opened in response to a request by the Alaska State Troopers to search for 6 overdue snowmobilers last seen traveling from Shishmaref to Brevig Mission AAOF #1 recovered 3 of the overdues, 2 of the overdues self-recovered to Shishmaref and the remaining were escorted to safety by a civilian ground team. The Nome CAP flew 1 sortie for 5.7 hours and AAOF #1 flew 1 sortie for 4.8 hours. 3 SAVES were awarded.

MSN 374 31 Dec 97 (SEARCH) FAIRBANKS CAP
Mission opened in response to an ELT report in the Clear area. The Fairbanks CAP sent a ground team and also an aircraft to search. There were no signs of distress seen or heard. Three missed passes were received and the mission was closed. The Fairbanks CAP ground team searched for 3.0 hours and flew 1 sortie for 1.1 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.
