MSN 242 1 Aug 96 (SAR) 210th RQS, POLARIS CAP, BETHEL CAP, BIRCHWOOD CAP, ELMENDORF CAP, KENAI CAP, AST, NPS and USCG
Mission opened in response to an overdue aircraft en route from Wolf Lake to Aleknagik via Lake Clarke Pass. 210th RQS, NPS, AST, USCG and various CAP units participated in the search. Based on radar track provided by ROCC, the HC-130 was dispatched and located the wreckage of the C-180 at the 2400 ft level of a 2452ft hill. Pilot and passenger was deceased. 48 sorties for 120.2 hours were flown by AST, NPS, CAP, ANG and USCG. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

Mission opened in response to a composite ELT in the Fairbanks area. Fairbanks CAP responded and located the ELT in an aircraft parked at the Fairbanks airport. Fairbanks CAP flew 1 sortie for 0.9 hours and a ground team searched for 1.0 hour and claimed no expenses. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

Mission opened in response to a possible distressed aircraft. Valdez CAP was preparing to launch when RCC received word that the sighting was verified to be a discolored rock formation. Valdez CAP flew 0 sorties for 9 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS were awarded.

Mission opened in response to a composite ELT in the Quartz Creek area. Kenai Cap responded and located the ELT in an aircraft parked at the Quartz Creek airport. Kenai CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.9 hours. No SAVES of ASSISTS awarded.

Mission opened in response to a composite ELT in the Tazlina Lake area. Birchwood CAP was on a training flight and diverted to search. Shortly afterwards, RCC received a SARSAT report for an EPIRB belonging to a boat docked in Kasilof. The owner was notified and the signal ceased. Birchwood CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.5 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS awarded.

Mission opened in response to a composite ELT on the Parks Highway. Birchwood CAP responded and located the ELT in a private residence in a travel bag. Birchwood CAP searched for 1.5 hours and claimed no expenses. No SAVES or ASSISTS awarded.

Mission opened in response to a request from AST to locate a 40 year old native woman 15 NM east of Kotzebue. Kotzebue CAP was tasked to respond and located the woman 8NM from her campsite. ONE SAVE was awarded.

Mission opened in response to a composite ELT in the Anchorage area. Birchwood CAP responded and located the ELT in an aircraft parked at Merrill Field airport. Birchwood CAP flew 2 sorties for 2.0 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS awarded.

Mission opened in response to a request from ASTA to search for an overdue boater going from Arctic Village to Venetie on the Chadalar River. Ft Yukon CAP was tasked to search. While searching, the individual walked back to Arctic Village. Ft Yukon CAP flew 1 sortie for 2.7 hours. No SAVES or ASSISTS awarded.

Mission opened in response to a composite ELT in the Ft Yukon area. Ft Yukon CAP responded and conducted a thorough search. The ELT was locate in a house and was activated by a 3 year old child playing with survival gear. Ft Yukon CAP ground team searched for 0.7 hours and claimed no expenses. No SAVES or ASSISTS awarded.

Mission opened in response to a composite ELT in the Anchorage area. Anchorage CAP diverted forma training mission and assisted a ground team in locating the source of the ELT. The ELT was located at Sand Lake on a Supercub. Anchorage CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.5 hours and the Anchorage ground team searched for 6.0 hours and claimed $6.50 in expenses. Mission opened in response to a downed aircraft in Grasshopper Valley. Elmendorf CAP diverted an aircraft to assess the situation. 210th RQS launched a helo and recovered 4 non-injured passengers to Palmer airport. The pilot was uninjured and refused medical treatment. Elmendorf CAP flew 1 sortie for 2.6 hours. 210th RQS flew 1 sortie for 1.5 hours. FOUR ASSISTS awarded.

Mission opened in response to a composite ELT in the Eureka area. Gulkana CAP was tasked to conduct the search and located a distressed hunter trapped in a crevasse. 210th RQS then launched a helo and recovered the uninjured hunter to safety. Gulkana CAP flew 1 sortie for 1.5 hours. 210th RQS flew 1 sortie for 2.0 hours. ONE SAVE awarded.

Mission opened in response to an AST request to extract an injured climber at Eureka. Gulkana CAP located the injured climber and 210th RQS hoisted him to the helo and took him to Providence Hospital. Gulkana CAP flew 2 sorties for 2.6 hours. 210th RQS flew 2 sorties for 3.8 hours. ONE SAVE and ONE ASSIST was awarded.
